So I'm still trying to fastlane the idea of working with animation. I found some interesting ideas looking at other people.
Some people make stupid short movies on youtube, generate a fanbase, and then direct people to their websites selling shirts, cups, apps, and other things with the movies logo on it.
world of warcraft is a fastlane plan where people did something completley different with animation
I could sell the licensing rights of one of my characters to a big company ( crazy frog managed to get successful, remember).
I could make something like angry birds that became a multimillion dollar hit
I feel like most of the above ideas violate the commandment of entry though because it seems like a lot of people are trying to do stuff like this. I would have to be exceptional to excel at this craft, and to be exceptional would require many many years, hence not fastlane. Especially since I'm considering finding an internship first and learning from the best, which would take a long time.
I still have the other ideas that some people suggested on the other thread so those as well..such as marketing animation for people with mental issues or something..animation for depresssed people for dummies or something...
The thing is with animation it takes years to get decent and there is a lot of busy work involved. I feel like I'm trying to force animation into a fastlane road where in fact it might not be possible, simply by the fact that it's an art form and needs time to get good at, wheras selling trays doesn't for instance. Is it just me or am I trying to get my cake and eat it too?
And as much as I love it it makes me wonder if I wouldn't rather just be retired in 3-5 years with a more fastlane plan like selling trays instead of doing animation.
Before I read the book I didn't know it was possible to not do what you love and still be happy so my mind is still tripped out by this concept and trying to process it. Total paradigm change. Anyone else struggling with this new idea?
I'm adding this extra bit a few minutes later:
I just realized I actually love doing lots of things. I love reading philosophy, I love reading books, writing, partying, bodybuilding, etc, I even love running a business...maybe I've been too focused on finding "THE LOVE" because of all the self help gurus instead of just doing what I need to to make money.
