  • can you give me your honest unbiased opinion since you don't know me..from waht I've said do I sound like I'm just being immature and complaining or are my concerns valid? I just don't know why animation is so painful..just to make a walk cycle requires so much editing in the graph editor...i did NOT sign on to be a computer programmer or to do such stupid busywork as adjusting a minor vert one by one to get just the right angle..I want to be a artist and filmmaker I have a vision I want to create and I want to just get it out but I can't (at least not as quickly as I'd like)....maybe live action is better for me but I have a feeling Id feel the same way about that maybe..

I just have so much artistic talent, a free education, and I'm honestly funnier than 95 percent of most people ( so for movies) and I don't want to throw it all away but its so frustrating
I was planning to do the things you said before I read your suggestions actually about the iphone games or posting a video online and starting a company etc..but if I do iphone games i don't even need to learn animation really ..I'm making a game in unity right now so I could transfer my knowledge that way...

I just go in to the school every day and I almost cringe because I see these nerdy asian dudes with no lives slaving away all day at the computer and I'm not used to it..i keep thinking oh shit I'm competing against them and I don't think I like it as much as they do so how can I compete..

as far as my site goes I changed it to just be a site that showcases my portfolio with a simple forum set up for now...ya I know it needs lots of work ..
hey thanks for the advice. I didn't see these messages until today for some reason. I feel so conflicted because I keep hearing from people online how animation can't be fastlane and how hard it is to make it in this saturated industry. Then I go to academy of art and talk to animators who tell me there is no money in this industry and you will never make any money ever and thats it about the love of animation. ...to be honest I think I want to quit beacause i hate rigging, i hate painting weights, I like character animation but it takes F*cking forever just to make one little thing move its like wtf?? The only thing I might wanna do is modeling but even that is tedious. I'm not lazy at all I've been animating nonstop the past 7 months I'm just not having the kind of fun I thought I would with it..maybe it's because Im new and I'm not good yet but I doubt thats why..
Build a few high quality short animations to help build your portfolio, start networking/working in small teams and projects, add onto your portfolio, start getting your name out there, and when you feel comfortable (or even if you do now) start building your own team to work on a big project that you will dedicate at least 1 year of your time to. In the meantime you should get your site re-designed, better background, better structure, etc. I'm not sure if that website is supposed to contain your portfolio or not but if it's just meant for a place where 3D animators and designers can gather to discuss stuff and also be a portal for your company then it needs a lot of work :).

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask or PM me.
Even creating a small animated movie that you put a lot of effort into over the course of a few months could get your YouTube channel and website a few hundred thousand hits if done properly, which will without a doubt start building up a fan base for your company. If you're trying to be the next Pixar or Ubisoft you will need a strong team to back you, at least 2-3 partners that are really dedicated to helping you and the company, and a great visionary.
You could build a mobile game with the potential of Fruit Ninja or Angry Birds easily if you have the right vision, and that could quickly make you a few million dollars once the game goes viral and I'm pretty sure a game similar to those could be done in a little less than a year with a small team. Of course many people and small teams try this and a lot of times their efforts aren't worth it.

If you're great at one thing it's likely that you're only good at another. So you may have all the skill in the world but your insights and visions couldn't be worth 2 cents, ensuring that you will fail on any project that you try to handle alone.
Well I think one of the best ways to go about doing this would be for you to use your skills and knowledge to start building up a portfolio. A solid portfolio that clearly demonstrates all of your capabilities to their fullest extent. Then try to network and work with other animators and game creators in small or medium sized projects so you can get the experience of working with others, as well as also build up your portfolio at the same time and have the possibility of being apart of a successful project.

Animation/Game Creation can be fast lane in my opinion but it depends on your work ethic and delivery.
