So funny story I just remembered that I thought I'd share with the forum..

So about a year ago I use to sell cars at a Honda dealership. It was a busy saturday afternoon, and I already had a customer. As I was walking by my manger at the time told me to see what this one family was up to looking at a CRV. Now, anyone who knows the car business knows how hectic at times it can be, especially on a saturday afternoon in a dealership that easily does 500 new cars a month.

I approach the husband of the family & start chatting with him for a few minutes to see what he was interested in, was looking to do, etc. He was in a rush, had to drop off his kids, etc. The usual excuses people give when they want to leave, aren't interested. He asked for my card so I gave it to him figuring I would never hear from him again. Well, later in that afternoon I get a call from him telling me he's on his way, his lease is about to be up on his Pilot, so he needs another SUV.

He comes back, we look at a few cars, start talking, get his car appraised, start doing the whole process for credit, etc. Now, when you take credit there are some general questions that need to get filled out one of em which is annual salary, so he told me he made $275k a year, working for a digital marketing company out in NYC, he was from Dallas now residing in NJ. We talk about his job for a little to kill some time. So, in the midst of all this we get on the subject about business & entrepreneurship, etc.

He then begins to tell me a story(we'll just say my customers name is D for the story's purpose). Back then when the internet first came out D had a close friend when he lived in Dallas. He told me his friend started a company, and was dying to bring him on board but was unable to pay him a salary & only offer him equity in the company. At the time D was already married and had one kid and job already just under 6 figures a year, so he had a family to support. D told me he thought about this & kindly declined his friends offer as most people would who aren't offered a salary upfront as well as no other means of income(D's wife wasn't working at the time either).

D tells me his friend lived at the office which he started the company at he didn't have "2 nickels to rub together", living off ramen noodles, etc. Well, to finally make a long story short, that company was later sold to Yahoo in 1999 for $5.7 Billion in Yahoo Stock. Yup, you guessed it! That company was broadcast.com and D's close friend was Mark Cuban, lol. My eyes lit up like a christmas tree when he told me it was broadcast.com & that his ex best friend was Mark Cuban. I asked D, does he regret it, he told me no, because he is still better off then most people making a comfortable living but at the same time he would have been set for life. Lol.

I was going to add my own opinion of a "moral to the story" but couldn't come up with anything clever enough, haha. I'll leave that to you guys ;)
