This idea of a post has probably been done before, but that's also kind of the point of this post anyways.
Don't know what to do? What to invent? What business to start?
Pick a company that's winning (or was winning) using a unique business model.
Then, transfer that model to something else.
example:
Subway sandwiches
model: Pick your food, it slides along behind glass while someone assembles it according to your choices.
transfer:
Mexican version: Chipotle (5.5b revenue)
Pizza version: Mod pizza (400m rev)
Uber
model: go to an app, buy a service, an independent contractor comes to do it.
transfer:
House cleaning version: Handy (33m revenue)
Massage version: Soothe (currently has 11,000 therapists using their platform)
You don't need to be a fantastic inventor. There is tons of money to be made in well-worn industries. It doesn't even require a new business model, just a new model for that industry.
