Where do you go to find information about the real estate market in a particular area or region? What are the best sources: realtors, mortgage brokers, gov't officials, investors, who else? Are there any good websites or magazines that provide useful information on the topic? I'm talking about things such as job growth, apartment demand, general city plans, and topics of this nature.

Thanks!

Usually county websites provide great information, especially if the area is growing/improving. Chambers of commerce are also great for the same type of data. BLS.gov provides so much information that sometimes is painful to go there to look for data.

Here are a couple of non-pay options:

A lot of the apartment brokerages purchase data from tracking companies. They then condense it and redistribute it out it their own reports. Find the large companies in your area and look up their websites.

I look for the raw data in these reports because their ideas of good areas to invest in are frequently different than mine.
