What The f*ck. Today, I learned that "Yosemite" is not pronounced "yose-mite" but as "yoh-sem-mi-tee"! How strange. It goes against the basic laws of english pronunciation!

That's because it's Japanese, lol.

That's because English is a language that borrows heavily from almost every other language. It's the global language...probably has to do with the British colonizing the entire world, spreading dialects and phonetics, mixing them all together, and creating the bastardized but quite popular means of communicating we all know today :)

Oh, add to this the formation of the United States with immigrants from all over the world and you've really got a recipe for some crazy words and inconsistencies in the language.

But, it's the language I love!

I haven't listened to any of Joe's podcasts since he went to Spotify but I'll tune in for this one.

Are you familiar with Graham Hancock? He is mostly known for his work on "pre-history", but that work led him to research ancient religions, which led him to research the links between psychedelic drugs and ancient religions. Graham teamed up with a young guy who is an expert on ancient languages, and they wrote a book expounding the idea that all religions were originally based on spiritual teachings from psychedelic experiences. They are discussing that topic in the podcast.

Yeah I heard him on Joe's podcast the last time he was on and have been following him on social media since then, I'll need to order a couple of his books after listening to this!

One of the most interesting things I learned from listening to Graham Hancock, was the fact that if everyone on Earth got on a spaceship and left, everything made by men would be gone in just 10,000 years. The last remaining thing would be the Hoover Dam, and it would be gone in 10k years. Every car, skyscraper, and super-highway would be long ago dissolved and eaten by Earth's corrosive atmosphere. The atmosphere is basically the Earth's stomach.

Once you get to the idea that everything not made out of stone would be gone in 10k years, it opens up the possibility that civilizations just like ours might have previously existed. There is a lot of evidence of an "event" about 13k years ago that may have raised the water level worldwide by 40ft, and reset humanity's progress. There could have been several "cycles" of humanity.

It would be super cool if one day they figured out there had been an advanced civilzation that got zapped by something 13k years ago. Might make people try harder to work together, maybe colonize some other planets - in case it happened again.

Spotted: A violation of the commandments of Need and Value, exquisitely and hilariously roasted (pun intended) by James Hoffman.

If you don't know who James Hoffman is, he's the author of The World Atlas of Coffee and has a youtube channel where he shares opinionated and pretentious videos in his style of dry British humor. (Example: see his video, "Why modern espresso is so ugly."

So when one of his followers sent him a machine that re-roasts used coffee grounds, he decided to try it out.

Hah! - Getting MAJOR flashbacks to an ex who geeked out on coffee (& was British). The little set of scales & everything! The amount I learnt about coffee (only some of which I've retained) was ridiculous for someone who doesn't even drink it! I could see where that video was going from the off because the science of extraction is almighty.
Man I date nerds

I used to be a coffee nerd. At one point I had probably 6 different methods of making coffee.

Then I decided to cut back because the caffeine overload made me extremely tired all day. Threw out everything and quit cold turkey for a few weeks.

Realized that I don't really care whether my coffee has hints of snosberries and leather.

Now I drink about a cup or two of pre ground, bulk-can swill in the morning (sometimes none), with only a French press and decaf Nespresso at night.

How strange. It goes against the basic laws of english pronunciation!

Strange, indeed, that a word would ever go against the basic laws of English pronunciation.

==========================

I take it you already know

of tough and bough and cough and dough.

Others may stumble, but not you,

On hiccough, thorough, lough and through.

Well done! And now you wish, perhaps,

To learn of less familiar traps.

Beware of heard, a dreadful word

That looks like beard and sounds like bird.

And dead – it’s said like bed, not bead.

For goodness sake, don’t call it deed!

Watch out for meat and great and threat.

They rhyme with suite and straight and debt.

A moth is not a moth in mother,

Nor both in bother, broth in brother,

And here is not a match for there,

Nor dear and fear for pear and bear.

And then there’s dose and rose and lose

Just look them up — and goose and choose.

And cork and work and card and ward.

And font and front and word and sword.

And do and go, then thwart and cart.

Come, come I’ve hardly made a start.

A dreadful language? Man alive,

I’d mastered it when I was five!

—Attributed to T S Watt, 1954.

Fun day of trying to hire someone today.......

I tell them they can start now,...

Oh Im to tired,
Oh I just finished work
Oh that's not enough money

Lazy bums, I'm beyond pissed I was supposed to have someone show up today and they vanished. Already days behind schedule which is driving me nuts and one guy wants $25 an hour to basically do nothing (easy job) Billion dollars companies pay like $17-$19 bucks and I'm offering $20......hmmm

Basically wasted my whole day trying to find someone, it's 9pm almost and have done pretty much nothing today that's been productive besides age myself 100 years.

Where do you guys find good employees? I'm amazed people are turning down work that pays more than the biggest companies in Canada. Thanks alot socialist gov, tax those evil rich and give it away to people staying at home drinking bud lights watching netflix, the Canadian dream...

All the gov hand outs are just incentivizing bums to sit at home and do nothing, to bad O leary dropped out for PM, he could make Canada great again.

Funny story, I offered a scumbag pan handler a job (told him it's minimum wage) and the ********************* said nah, I'm making $700 a month on welfare, I wish I could just kick his head in. This bum is harrasing people on the street for money playing the victim card and stealing from all of us Canadians that bust our a$$ doing some BS work yet he is scamming all of us tax payers, special place in hell for him.

RANT-- My course and YouTube filming got interrupted because I have a week to finish emptying my apartment for the sublease person, I'm just 8 paintings away of finishing my 30 Day Challenge (First challenge ever I go anything further than day 3 or 4) I have stuff home that I need to unpack, I'll have to make a decision on the whole what-to-do-with-tenant since they will find it nearly impossible to move and they want to stay, and I really want them to stay, I'm just not made to break rules. Then smaller to-do errands that are really not a big deal, but they add to the pile too. These things bubble inside like a kettle without me knowing and by the time I can notice it, it's too late.
I accidentally skipped a couple doses of my medication, that didn't help. So today I was so sleepy and fatigued from the start, I decided to take a nap and woke up straight having an anxiety attack. I had to take a shower, pill, and just go back to bed for another three hours. I need the next two weeks to go by fast and I need some win at work because I haven't been doing much and I don't want them to notice. This would be bad timing to lose that income, as well as the telecommuting option as this whole thing still unfolds.

It's like STOP THE CAROUSEL I WANNA GET OFF. I'm constantly thinking what could I have forgotten. things slip through the cracks. I keep making lists and lists because my short term memory has become non existent. As in, I have to check if I flushed the toilet right after I washed my hands because I forgot. Mental illness sucks my friends. Honestly I forget so much and miss so many things/pay no attention I'm scared I'll end up with dementia very, very early. And I'm being realistic here I'm not trying to blow it up. It feels so bad feeling so dumb. Unless I'm on hyperfocus I'm like the DMV sloth from Zootopia.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk

I've some unsolicited advice for you, not sure where to post this on since your Youtube progress thread is in the INSIDERS' forum and I'm not a member, so I'll throw it here (used to draw too). You probably already have a ton of advice on the video making in the INSIDERS forum, but here goes (this is with regards to your single YT vid, not sure if you're making more):

1) Lighting needs to be a lot brighter, daylight with the light shining brightly into the house would be awesome

2) More smiles like in profile pic. I feel the energy coming out from your profile pic has a lot of playful charisma and makes me wanna click

3) Camera is way too close to the face. Not sure what cam you're using but phones' ones will distort facial features.

4) Because of the extreme camera close-up, it feels very uncomfortable looking at the face.
It feels like someone is talking to you 1 inch away from you.

5) Eyes are too stiff and hard. Gives off crazed serial killer vibes. I feel kinda creeped out lol
Eyes needs to be softer and more relaxed.

Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback!!

My desk is in front of a window... but a bit to the side. Sunlight hits in the afternoon, but since it's at an angle I felt it gives me shadow on one side of the face. I bought the ring light a few people recommended but I'm not sure it's working (I'll be able to finish this video and work more on them soon). You may be right about the distance as well. I'm using a Canon M100. It's an ongoing thing to get that setup right, and then I gotta try to keep it set or just learn how to set it up right every time. To add to that, I'm kinda toast when it's cloudy, and winter is coming.

The eyes thing... Idk how to work on it.. it's my face LOL and I say that because I'm constantly told the serial killer thing when I open my eyes wide, it's an ongoing joke with family and friends. If I don't try to gesticulate more though the other extreme happens, I look at the video and feel I look sleepy AND I'm putting everyone to sleep. I'm not sure how to find a balance hahahaha

Bought an amazing car I always wanted. Mercedes S550.

Owned it 13 months. Got run off the road once...

And today... sandwich smashed by an a lady who "didn't have her coffee today." What a stupid bitch.

There are so many things wrong with it I'm sure it is totaled. Parking sensors, air bag lights, trunk won't open, fluids leaking.

Yeah, it's too easy to total an S class. It is done.

Wife and I are fine... But still. Disappointing. Glad we were in the S instead of the truck though. Clearly a safe car. I'll buy another...

Oof, glad you guys are okay. I'm just gonna say pay a lot of attention at your back and neck, maybe go get checked and get a massage... I've heard from a lot of people that even on not-so-bad crashes they end up with chronic pain. :/

Haha mine was too nice for that shit yet.

With my luck, I buy a Maybach and I'll get hit a week later by a falling 737 Max.

Thinking about the GLS perhaps.

Just watched a video by trump saying he's doing well and his wife has mild symptons, wonder how this will change the perception of this scary virus, if a fat old guy like him has it and even he has mild symptoms...imagine the people that are actually healthy!

Shoutout to the secret service watching this thread, don't worry I'm Canadian..

Woops gotta go a couple black vans rolled up outside

Ok, I'll wait for the next video first before saying anything. :) I feel the next one would be way better!
There's a lot of potential in these type of YT channels, because it can spin off to ASMR art niches and art for depression/anxiety/self-awareness niches.
