Sales tax in Germany was temporarily reduced from 19% to 16% starting today until the end of the year.

Businesses here are forced to include the sales tax in prices shown to consumers. So, if you leave the gross prices the same, it's an instant 2,6% increase in revenue.

It's funny that they try to frame this as a "value-added tax" / VAT in the propaganda, while everyone knows that the government adds no value at all to anything.
Welcome back, missed your attitude kumpel

Talk about script thinking. Was just looking at a possible new appartment to rent a few hours ago and everything seemed to be going great.

Then the landlady just "had to ask this questions because she was kinda worried and nervous". Apparently she had added my mobile number and saw me as a contact in her WhatsApp. My current status is the latin phrase "si vis pacem, para bellum" ("If you want peace, prepare for war") which she googled and found to be used by some right wing groups. And if she "cannot tolerate on thing it's right-wing thinking".

Despite telling her that I'm not some neonazi, now I just can't personally justify renting that appartement because I now feel like I'm under general suspicion to be a neo-nazi terrorist.

What a shame, would have liked that appartment.

That woman's brave. Discrimination as a landlord is illegal.

Don't read must-reads.

Windows computers suck! What OS do you use and why?

F*ck her. Not gonna sue her for that.

The problem is that that appartment is in the basement of their SFH so I would be around them most of the time and would have to be on my toes most of the time because I know there's some nervous landlady potential listening or somehow watching what I do. Just not worth it.

I use Windows because I really like videogames , and also I've had issues with Linux' writing software, mostly getting docx to work is a nightmare, especially when people use wildly different Word versions, and I'm not a fan of Google Docs for multiple reasons.

I have never considered purchasing an Apple product, as I don't see the appeal, and whenever I try them they feel clunky. Plus I get so much mileage out of Windows machines that I don't feel the need to change.

What makes you say that Windows PCs suck?

Yeah, not even worth the time of putting ink on paper.

updates all the time...
I use it for business and we need things to work smoothly, we have constant problems with connections.
It used to work fairly well, but lately it's been causing problems (more than ever) things are slow (but cpu/ram/etc... are not fully utilized...
I've installed Linux mint on one computer, and raspbian pi on a remote display, and they work wonderfully :)

I should have been more explicit, what i meant was that you don't need diplomas to do good stuff, unless you want to be a doctor.
It was explicit. I somehow tend to reply two levels deep.

I thought Windows still had an Enterprise edition with slower and infrequent updates rollout, but Linux is a killer OS if you don't need Windows / Apple specific software, and distros like Mint are great even if you are entirely new to Linux.

Those who deny each other their markets are at war, just as those who trade with each other are at peace. The US economy self-segregates as Turchin's clock strikes midnight.

Best starting OS is MacOS, because it just works and is reliable. Then have Windows (unreliable) and Linux (demanding) as secondaries for specific roles. Eventually one may outgrow MacOS for Linux, but never rely on Windows to host one's primary exomind. Even with Linux as primary, it's good to keep a MacOS around as a reliable fallback, since MacOS also excels at certain jobs.

Never used Mac yet, might need to try it

"They" canceled Freedom Fest. That says a lot.

Why don't "they" just "offically" cancel freedom already?

Fastlane story time: Scentbird

It's the story of a girl which wanted to selfishly sell beauty products, so she tried and it failed, so she adapted her business model once, it kept on failing, so she adapted her business model a second time and it still failed, so she listened to the need of the market and adapted the business model a third time and people got responsive suddenly from the first day onward. The company sells subscription of...perfumes, where they send their customer one different perfume per month.
I think it's brilliant.

When you are great at PR and have really no merit:
Kanye West announces he is running for president in 2020

The Peter Principle states that the reason why people in hierarchies suck is because they DID well in their previous job and as a result, moved up. Once they reach a level of incompetence, they STOP moving on the corporate ladder and stay in their position...because they aren't really good. As such, this explains why organisations stop working well at some point: people good at their job change jobs, and people that suck stay where they are.

I am starting to think that UAL is just trolling everyone. They need a new PR firm.
