Hello Fastlaner's, I work within a specific area of IT (Network Engineering) which involves a lot of studying and certifications to keep up with the current technology. One of the most popular certifications in IT is called the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). It's an entry level certification but also one of the most difficult for many people trying to get their foot into the world of network technology. in order to pass this test you need to have a solid understanding of not only the theory but also know how to configure and setup routers, firewalls, DSL, etc in the real world.
Well I passed this test about a year ago now and just like many others it was hard to find examples of how you would set up networking hardware such as routers in a live environment like a small business for instance. It hit me like a ton of bricks last week that there's a ton of books on the theory but not enough study material to help you learn how to configure and deploy the networking equipment itself. I did a quick market survey by asking fellow techies in my niche if they would be interested on a few different tech forums. I received a very positive response and even some good words from guys who are pretty well known in the IT networking community.
To get to the point, my dilemma is that I'm not an expert in my field by any means yet. While I am experienced and have tackled the CCNA rather easily I feel as if it's not right to charge for a ebook about passing the CCNA exam since I'm not an expert in my niche yet. I was wondering if I could get some input on this? I was thinking I could give my first eBook away for free and depending on how that does I could charge for any other eBooks afterwards. The nice thing about my field is that there are a ton of exams that's always changing so I should never run out of material to right about that's relevant. I have a blog that's starting to pick up steam and I actually have an outline and everything created for the eBook. I'm just not sure how I should go about this opportunity, I look forward to hearing everyone's input!
