General update

It has been 3 or 4 weeks since I started that job, I think? I did not plan to come on here but due to something getting cancelled I ended up coming here.

Where am I?

To not go so deep into it, I have been separating my income using a financial plan I wrote up. It is very boring so I won't explain it except to say that I have been putting money aside and also using it to live a very healthy life.

I have the two departments that I would like to get a contract in after being shifted through all of them, and talked to the manager of the top one out of those two. So for this month (at least) I will be pushing by talking to higher-ups about my wanting to work there.

Also, I happen to be a generally social guy. As a result, I was able to get some good insights about this workplace from people working there, so I have a pretty nuanced understanding of why I want the contract in either of those two departments, and I got some advice on how to get one. Basically, showing initiative is it.

I will write here, that once I get the contract I will focus on the next step: Specialised Labour.

But then, I only work 12 hours a day for 4 days a week.

What have I been doing?

I have been focusing on two other areas of my life. I have three areas of life that I have been focused on. Wealth, Health/Relationships, and a Language. I have been putting my focus on the latter two areas (for those who follow Darren Hardy, if you know you know.)

This might seem irrelevant, but I will explain how it is not... in my view.

As I said, in a previous comment I want to take this approach (Foundational Job -> Specialised Labour -> Specialised Skill -> Specialised Unit) step-by-step. If I focus on two or three goals in this area, I will likely f*ck up. Instead of being mediocre at two or three areas, why not excel in one? So I am putting this focus on those other areas. I might spend money by exercising or learning a language, but I won't lose it, if that makes sense.

If I did NOTHING, then I would default to being some degenerate. You know, "idle hands are the devil's workshop".

As a result, I feel deeply fulfilled right now. Even at work, I get a smile when I remember this route that I am taking and that I am still working on those other areas of my life. Also I am learning how to set goals well and achieve them which will likely help in the wealth creation process.

What is the point of this comment?

Since I am in the Foundational Job stage, it seems appropriate to post this here. As MJ says about Action Faking vs Action Taking, I believe that this may be useful as an example of Action Taking.

If you are that person, who wants to use this type of route that I am taking, then you can see this thread as an example. In fact, I will write to you directly. If you are not that person, you can skip to the end.

Even at the Foundation Job level you should still be in Action Taking mode. Even at the level of going to work every day, that is an example of Action Taking. I cannot talk about Specialised Labour and up, but I feel confident in saying that at the Foundation Job level it really helps to have a vision of the life you would be happy with and could afford. Then set regular goals in this area at least, I'd say also one or two other areas of life if you want to be happy. The nature of a job is that some things take time. Like for me, to get a contract will take time, and I can only put so much energy into it. So having those two other areas will help you use that energy instead of degenerating.

By degenerating, I mean something like this: you have a Foundation Job, you are aiming for X thing, but you have free time. And money! So you eat a bit more, you drink, and now you are less healthy, and feel worse at your job. But you feel good for a bit when you eat and drink, and so the cycle goes. Even just at the Foundation Job level, these distractions can result in you stagnating right there, because of these problems taking up your mental space.

The conclusion I reached was that the time will pass anyway, and I need to use that time somehow. Spending it in this area of Wealth will mess that up, and I can only learn so much without acting on that knowledge. So I might as well achieve some goals in another area or two that I care about in an effective manner.

To this end, I recommend The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy, and if you like his work then you can apply this directly with his Living Your Best Year Ever system. I use it, though I physically handwrite it into my journal instead of using his one, haha.

This is just me though, maybe someone else will say that no, he went from broke to an agency job, then immediately to Specialised Labour, and raced to the end. I can only give my experience.

Conclusion
In terms of wealth, I will focus on getting the contract. There are two outcomes

1. I get a contract within the mentioned 3 month window
Great, I will be mostly done with the Foundational Job step, and can move to Specialised Labour.

2. I don't get a contract
I assess the situation and the actions I have taken, and adjust. I will not overthink on this right now.

Once I move on to that next step I will say so here, consider this thread closed, and open a new thread. Exciting!

Thanks again for all the support. I don't use the internet much so you won't see me commenting here. Now I need to go, I think I spent like 30 minutes writing this comment, haha.

Enjoy yourselves.
