So, a couple of months ago, for some reason I spontaneously felt like writing a poem - how random! It turns out I had A LOT to get off my chest about the rat race, and so it turned into more of a saga than a poem!! 
I've chopped it up a bit, and ended up with 7-8 short poems that make for easier reading. So just for some light entertainment, here is a small sample. It may start and end a little abruptly as it was originally composed as part of the saga!

PENSION PUBLICITY STUNT
Put ten percent in a pension fund,
And hope for a good return,
'Cause when you retire at sixty-five,
You’ll be expected to go it alone.
Maybe by then you’ll be a millionaire,
But more than likely you won’t,
We see it more so today than before,
This plan’s a publicity stunt!
Work forty years, scrimp and save,
In the hope it’ll all turn out well,
But the markets may change and health may subside,
Unknowns that no-one can tell.
Some pensions are worth very little today,
Making it hard to survive,
More often than not people take on more work,
Well past sixty-five.
Why wait till then to be free anyhow,
The time is now, can’t you see?
Better to enjoy it today than take risks,
And to guess what the future will be.
