HOT TOPIC 'Parasite' won the Oscar for "Best Picture." I couldn't be more disgusted.

I also liked it because I don't think it was very Hollywood, it felt "Korean/Japanese" - a bit crazy and unpredictable.
Definitely liked this about it, and am subsequently surprised it was awarded an Oscar. It had that Korean/Japanese movie vibe of "everything is fine and NOW EVERYTHING GOES OFF A CLIFF". I didn't really realize until now that this was one of my favorite aspects, haha.

I started watching it and at least the beginning it seemed like a "rich people get what's coming to them" flick, so I do admit that after that my attention started to drift.
By the end, quite the reverse in my opinion. The con artist family does NOT get to ride off happily into the sunset.

Too bad it is now impossible for enlightened people to find other sources of information, either confirming or contradicting Chris' opinion. Yes, nobody will ever watch it now, alas. All over for that movie, and the director and the actors will obviously starve. Chris, how dare you share an opinion? Good heavens.
@Rabby

Too bad aforementioned people don’t seem very enlightened

Too bad it wasn’t even his own opinion but a misinformed article stated as fact ‍:/

but it admittedly didn't get my full attention after the first 20 minutes because I was so turned off by the beginning: which seemed to be glorifying (or at least wanting you to sympathize with) their parasitic behavior.
I don't know man, it's a bit like saying that American History X sympathizes with the Nazi....
Not really.

Alright guys come on.. I said I'd rewatch it. The replies are fair.

I haven't really had a chance (you know, with the global pandemic and all) but then again my self-imposed quarantine may be the perfect time.

I'm just playing around with you man. You seemed kind of serious about it. Trust me, the people commenting are more enlightened than you might think. There are a lot of free thinkers here.

You're not getting out of this until you say it's the best movie ever... take your punishment Chris!

The movie is quite deep .I liked it in parts :
- In most part you will see the rich guy going up using stairs or elevator . While the poor guy/family going down .A good allegory .
- Poor guy live in dark/damp places while rich live in shiny/sunlit places .
- In a way the rich family is the actual parasite in the movie (or that's what I understood ) .
- The saddest scene was the last scene in which the protagonist is trying to figure out the way to buy rich guy's house. And with his current work it will take 460+ years to buy that place. In a way it reinforces the slow-lane thinking that a poor can never even think of buying a great house. (I was beating my head on this scene. I was thinking wish I could give him M J's book and tell him that there is a way to buy that house very fast ha ha)

My thinking is that kid will probably not learn even when presented with an alternative. He says "he'll figure out somehow a way to accumulate the money to buy that house." (Probably through means of another scam, after all I think the theme is people like that will never learn.) But then we cut to him back in the present with nothing. It leaves us to question whether he actually figures out a way to do it or not. He "imagines" how its going to play out, but I think its up to the audience whether or not he makes it.

So I just finished watching this. Honestly, I'm not that impressed. Just not my cup of tea.

The movie itself only served to push Bong's Anti-Capitalism narrative. He even said it himself:

“This film is about the rich and poor and about capitalism—and the U.S. is the heart of capitalism.”

I dunno.. this film get a big long "whatever" from me. I don't hate it. It's just boring to me.

I found the rich / poor narrative giving me some sympathy for the poor, and the dichotomy and juxtaposition was interesting but there were other films I saw recently that I liked much more. For example Once Upon A Time in Hollywood

The crazy left-turn towards the climax was a bit jarring and out of character. Not great but not terrible of a movie.
Yea, that left turn really screwed me up.

Or The Irishman which was also great. Forget Oscars, that movie should be preserved in the library of congress.
The Irishman was an undeniable classic. But that goes for pretty much anything Scorsese touches.

Bro...are you joking...? Parasite is one of the most intelligent, nuanced movies ever... it has so many meaningful, deep and thought-provoking messages....just watch this (Spoiler alert) and maybe you will understand....

I don't know... maybe this just isn't a good film for capitalists. Mr Parks is a CEO. CEO work is more important to the market than being a driver, therefore it pays more. You get paid in proportion to the service you provide to people. The poor family are a bunch of con-artists who provide no value to people and feel entitled to wealth and that wealth should just be handed to them.

That this scene for instance:

1/4 of the boxes she was supposed to fold were messed up. Her employer docked her 10%. Do the math. Really she should have just taken the good ones, docked 25% and it would have been fair. Instead the employer gave her more than she should have gotten and she was still pissed off.

These people swindle their way through life and steal and provide very little value and it's no wonder they're in that financial situation.

I don't know... maybe I'll watch it again some day, but for me it's really just a socialist circlejerk.

So if you dislike a movie that others like you are: unintelligent, misinformed, not very deep, not free to criticize, not a free thinker. Basically you are mindless moron who cannot think for themselves and is so shallow that they do not understand the beauty and majesty of this thought provoking and deep film.

What if Chris doesn't like Chinese food and everyone else does?

My perception was that they movie is actually not just "selling" one side of the story (socialist vs. capitalist). In contrast to 90% of hollywood movies (the brave american soldier that is saving the world vs. the evil terrorist). The scene you have described is a perfect example for that. I mean...the movie is called "Parasite"....look how the poor family is portrayed during the first half of the movie....they are lazy, they lie etc. but they are the bottom of the barrel...how much can they improve their lives in that kind of society by e.g. just working hard...? Of course, the hollywood version of that would be: they would just continue to fold boxes and build a box-folding billion-dollar company... Anyways, at the end of the day...all protagonists in the movie are "Parasites" in one way or another...we all can only afford to live the way we live because everyone plays their part. And catastrophes (climate change, covid etc..) will sooner or later have a disruptive impact on the way our societies function...(what will happen if 1,5 billion Africans will be forced to migrate due to droughts etc.)
