I’ve had many conversations with business owners, or in general people who have gotten stuck. Including myself.
Every time you get stuck, the root of it is a belief.
It’s not that you don’t know HOW to fix your problem. It’s that you should improve the way you think about your problems.
Without having more information, or experience, or a higher IQ, just having a general strategy can be all the tools we need to get pointed in the right direction. That’s a crazy realization.
When I have these conversations, I do ONE thing, and it breaks peoples’ beliefs.
This one thing can stop you from quitting.
It can get you to solve every problem logically.
It can get you out of an emotional state that isn’t productive.
It only has one drawback: it makes you confront a hard truth….
What is this one thing?
The one thing is this: Verbally speak (and/or write down) the BASIC, LOGICAL truth of your belief.
What does that mean?
If you’re frustrated with dating, you might believe ridiculous things that aren’t true. It might FEEL like “there’s no good women. It’s not even worth it. I should just be alone” but if you verbally speak the essential logical form of what you’re saying, you know you can’t accept it. “I have dated 14 women and I haven’t found a good one, so out of the billions of women, I would be unable to find a suitable one and should give up”. That’s ridiculous. It slaps you in the face.
Business too.
You might feel like quitting and get frustrated. But then you just speak out the logic and it brings you back to reality.
“I have a (common industry) company. I’ve given 6 months of effort and have gotten minimal results. This means I should quit, even though other people with worse situations have found massive success in my industry. It’s impossible for ME to succeed but possible for others.”
Ridiculous.
When you speak out loud the logical fundamental argument or belief you have in your head about a problem, you realize that there’s a logical solution, it’s not impossible, you can learn anything, and it’s a function of effort and correct thinking.
When you have any problem, you don’t know how to do something. Don’t get mad. Catch yourself. List out the problem. “I don’t know how to hire and train enough workers to grow my business”.
The solution presents itself.
“I need to learn how to hire and train enough workers to grow my business”.
Now your efforts are pointed in the right direction.
It will highlight your skills gaps and will hurt your ego, but that’s what you need to solve the problem.
When I have these conversations with people, I’ll say out loud the obviously untrue belief they are saying without saying. They realize how ridiculous it sounds, and then they realize they have to let that belief go.
So while other people get discouraged, or frustrated about problems they have, you’ll go right into “solve” mode naturally. You’ll spend zero time accepting ridiculous beliefs that get you stuck. You’ll confront the bullshit story you tell yourself about why it wouldn’t work.
Lies, inaction, foolishness, useless emotions, procrastination….it all lives in the silent mind. When you don’t speak things out logically or don’t write them down, they can be ridiculous. When we bring them up to the surface, they are like germs, they die from exposure. This is what it means to confront them. This is how you can become more logical.
