I live in New York City and I am trying to be a little smarter with my money. I don't have much, but I am trying to start somewhere. I have $60k and I am trying to decide what to do with it. Do I put it as a down payment for a crappy studio condo ($300k) in the city with a low common charge and building property tax? Do I look to invest in Jersey, Brooklyn, and Queens (prices are significantly cheaper but not guaranteed to rent out every month, plus the CC and property tax charge will really cut into cash flow because rent has to be lower)? Do I just hold out and save more money for property in Manhattan? My plan is to keep accumulating rental property. I do not have any plans to sell even the property appraisal value goes through the roof. Is it impossible for me to get into the real estate game in NYC unless I have major bucks? Any help would be much appreciated?
