I have plenty free time from my other e-com business, so I've been a bit bored and thinking about new ideas and products to work on. Couple of weeks ago I thought about a game that I'd love to play indoors during winter and I found nothing like I have in mind on the internet. Which was a big surprise!

I have been thinking about the materials, measures and all the other stuff during the last weeks. I can visualize things pretty clearly and I can also bring things to life according to that vision, so I'm positive about this as well. In my head now it's pretty great and almost done, but it's not easy to make. All I know is that I'd love to have it myself! There are different parts and everything has to be done from scratch. But with the right manufacturer I think I can pull it off. Maybe there are some things I'm not considering - production wise, need wise, or something else, but I will find out as I go.

Right now I am almost finished drawing all the details on paper with the right measures. I will check everything and think it over many times. Then I need someone to make 2d and 3d drawings so I can show them to manufacturers. I want a local Estonian manufacturer but I'm not sure yet, if thats going to be possible. We will see.

I know it's going to take a lot of time and I'm still running my other business so I will update this when I have something to share. But I'm excited and I've been missing this feeling for some months now!

Be safe and stay tuned!

So I finished most of the drawings on paper today and sent it to a guy who does 2d and 3d drawings. Hopefully I can work with him can get the drawings I need for producing! :smile2:

And we have a deal! His work looks amazing so I hired the guy to make drawings for me. A lot of details and lots of work. Not sure if he's going to finish this week but still things are moving!

I already got the drawings, looks really good! Just sent to one local company who works with these kinds of materials. Hopefully they are on board!

How was the experience to work with a 3D designer and how much did it cost?
Where did you find him?

I am at the same stage as you are! just got delivered my first part of product now I have to design some other pieces.

Hey!

It was okay, there was 7 different detailst that was drawn 2d and 3d. Cost was a bit over 100€ - not sure if that's a lot or not so much, but in the end I'm happy with the result and especially with the delivery time.

There were some issues though in the process, he didn't understand some parts completely (partly my fault) and we had to go back and forth the entire evening yesterday until I got what I wanted. 😀 But he was determined to make the result good for me.

Found him on Fiverr. There are tons of guys that can make yours as well, check it out! If I get the first prototype done by the factory, I need more parts as well so I'm not finished with this yet.

Thanks for a quick reply.
100€ is a fair price I think. I'm sure that real product designers make things like that pretty fast. Well it depends on how simple the product is.

Yes that's what I struggle with how could I explain the best with words that I know.

Good luck on the next step!

That's true, maybe you could make drawings on paper with some measures first yourself? That's what I did first. That way I saw immediately if he had made a mistake on his drawing or not.

Nice idea.
Well I took a little different approach today. A friend of mine is studying industrial engineering and I presented him an idea about my product and we covered a lot of stuff its amazing how much you can do in an hour or two if you are not alone with the problem.

Glad to hear! Best of luck and keep going!

Things are slower during the Christmas time and thanks to covid as well, so no real progress to share. Didn't get any response from the factories so I sent them a follow up email, and today got a response from one of them. They said that they are waiting for a reply from their material supplier, but it's definitely doable! It will probably be more expensive to make this here instead of some Asian country but I will save on shipping. I have no idea how much this is going to cost me! But I have to find out!

TheHustle newsletter recently published an article on Monopoly, and how it has a "monopoly" on board games. They give some history, and they discuss the economics of board games. Its an interesting read, especially if you are looking to manufacture a board game. DM me your email and I will forward the article to you.

Hey!

Thanks, found the article on google. Will definitely read it, although I'm working on a sportsgame, sort of.

Have a great 2021 everyone!

The holidays are over and things people are finally working again. It seems like local companies don't want my money. So I have also contacted a bunch of other companies in EU and Asia. Got one answer in the next hours and that's the only company that have responded to me this week.

We have exchanged some images and emails and they offered some advice, how to make the product cheaper and easier to produce. I am fine with these changes, so far. It still a prototype so that is testing period. No need to be too attached to the details. I need to make some changes to the drawings before I send it to the factory, but I think they will definitely help me get it done. I'm glad things are moving again.

We made some new drawings and changes, I need over 10 different details and all the measures have to be perfect. But I don't think I made any mistakes.

Yesterday I paid for the prototype and some tooling fees. It was a more than I expected, but it's a one time fee and it's completely new product so makes sense. Anyways, it's nothing to keep me going forward. I also paid for the shipping, it will be sent via air, so expect to get my hands on the prototype in ONE MONTH!

I received some images from the manufacturer yesterday, the main parts of the product are done and looks great so far. Exactly how I imagined they would be, so I am very happy so far. A lot of different details are still in the works so probably will take a couple of more days before the whole set is finished.

I also decided to order 2 sets instead of one, so I can keep one, play and test and if it's good enough and without defects, then I can sell the other one on FB marketplace, and see how much people are willing to pay, IF they even like it. And we go from there.

When I make prototypes, its usually about the same cost to make 5 as it is to make 1. If you bought 5, it would give you additional data points to test in your marketplace.

Good point, I didn't think of that too much before, but it's quite big when it's packed as a whole set, big box and I want it to be shipped via air so maybe that would push the shipping cost too high?

But yeah, 5 would be better than 2 😀 Although 2 is enough right now. But 5 would be better

Very exciting time for you! I'll be watching to see how you market it. Not sure if it fits in with your other eCommerce businesses and will be part of that sales channel or something completely new. Keep up the good work!

It is exciting, yes! Thanks!

It's completely new and different from my other business and product. I'm pretty sure there's market for this as well, but yeah, can't be 100% sure and have to see in the coming months. If it doesn't work out, at least I have new game to play at home 😀

The samples are ready and will be shipped this week.

I had a chance to test/play something similar to what I'm doing and I had some ideas for improving my game, there may be some specific issues with my samples that needs to be improved in the future but I will find out if I get my hands on them and I may be just overthinking. But I have some ideas and will discuss with the factory after I get the samples. I think it's possible to make the changes that I want, but it will make the production a bit more difficult. Anyway, let's find out if we even need to do it.

I will probably get them the week after next.

So the samples are now in Estonia, I made the import declaration this morning so hopefully they will release the goods today and send it before weekend!
It's a niche product and I'm not expecting it to be as successful locally as my other product, but I think there's some potential abroad and in Amazon.

I got the samples! Looks good overall, haven't played yet. Unfortunately I don't want to go into very specific details or add pictures here because this thread is public.

I'm going to be pretty busy with my other shop, because a couple of new shipments are coming in this week, but I try to test this game a bit and maybe make some pictures/videos and post it to FB marketplace. Maybe make a FB/IG accounts and run some boosted posts as well. Need to get some feedback asap!
