I have two suggestions:
1. Read through my AMA thread:
GOLD! Sharing my lifetime experience in export/import. Product sourcing specialist.
or
2. Look at my sourcing thread:
MARKETPLACE Walter Hay’s Sourcing Service.
The latest sourcing request that I have fulfilled has been fascinating. It involved a major project for a Fastlane member in an EU country who had been unable to locate a manufacturer for a very valuable product.
Although I have vast experience in safe product sourcing I found it very difficult, and at times it seemed that the product required was not available anywhere.
My motto is NEVER GIVE UP so I persevered over a period of two months and at last I found the rare item, and a supplier willing to supply under very specific conditions.
At first I beat my head against a brick wall trying to locate a manufacturer in China. I received many false promises, partly due to Chinese culture that results in "no" being like a four letter word to Chinese people. I am very accustomed to dealing with that, so I was able to work out who was serious.
Unfortunately, although many said they could, no Chinese manufacturer could really supply, so I went to other countries in my search, and ultimately found a top class manufacturer in another country.
This highlights the value of the advice I give in my sourcing and importing book about the substantial merits of looking at countries other than China.
Using one of the B2B sites that I list among the 41 countries that I have recommended for consideration, I found the right, and possibly the one and only supplier.
The moral of this story is: Don't limit your thinking to China.
