If there is nothing you can offer but a baseless opinion, why bother? Do you want attention? Or is it to try to provoke a reaction?
There was definitely some intentional shock value in that last line.

have to say am surprised that MJ responded that much here...

You don't know the backstory. I originally was going to reject his forum registration, but I figured I'd give this guy a chance and see what he had to say. In other words, I feel somewhat accountable for having this type of post surface here, or worse, have someone get roped into this questionable grift.

I'm batting 1000 on these types of registrations where I originally reject the registration and then change my mind and say, "Hey, let's give the guy a chance!"

Every time these registrations turns out to be a blockhead. And my kindness bites me in my a$$. This is why my fuse appears to be so short on posts like these.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've read today.

Clearly a scam, or just a very bored person. Either way, it does have the "Nigerian price" vibe, like @Antifragile suggested.

Exaclyt what did this guy expect? I can't imagine someone who is wealthy enough to become a "whale" would also be stupid enough to do some shady shit like this, especially with some random guy with no credability.

To the OP, not to add to the dog pile, but I would just take the L on this thread. Realize this type of crap is not tolerated and try and learn from those who have created true value. Hopefully you realize what you are asking sounds illegal and to avoid another "black swan event"(going to jail) you should probably take the L on losing all that money and try and build a real business.

If you've invested long enough, you know how hard it is to become successful and stay successful. I've been up numerous of times, yet every time I get to the millions, a black swan event happens to cause me to lose just about everything I have in less than a months time. Just about the worst thing that can happen to you happens to me every time I think I made it. This year is no different. If anyone is in the 37% tax bracket this year, let's work something out. I have a hefty 1.5M capital loss sitting to be gobbled up. I know its not the wisest choice for me, but it will save me a lot of time getting cash. If a whale is on here and they can help give me a lift, they will earn not only some cash, but a good friend who will help out when the tide turns the other way. Those are rare to come by. Message me if you're interested to help
I'm actually curious - let's say I'm your shining armour. What exactly do you want me to do?

I probably have an idea and MJ already tackled it, but I wanna hear your exact idea.

Easy, you wire him $1.5 mil to cover losses and now you don’t have to pay taxes on your $1.5 profit! Isn’t it awesome?!

How do you make a million dollars? Start with two.

Per the unluckiest guy ever via email, it's called a reverse merger.

He gets a whale as dumb as he is who wants to bail out his poor investment decisions.

If he finds someone as stupid and greedy enough to agree, they deserve each other.

Until the next black swan... translation: Until the market doesn't go up for 15 straight years.

Surely this isn’t the original title?

Hang around OP, I know you have a big problem and opportunity in front of you right now and that’s all you can see, but if you read the books and hang around you’ll be a lot better off long term.

Losses can be carried forward, but I'm guessing this guy is looking to play a shell game with someone dumb enough to fall for it.

So let's play.

I agree to his grift.

Now what?

I create a fake business and "write off" his losses? I take my current business that has made millions, and use it to write off his losses? How does this guy's personal losses get to my business that is making millions?

It makes no sense other than blatant tax fraud.

Would love to hear from @CareCPA or another CPA on the forum, I know we should have a half dozen or so
Definitely fraud.

I am guessing he wish to play the “trading the illiquid asset game”.

Both of you sign up crypto trading accounts in an obscure exchange.

You start buying above market price for an obscure crypto coin that no one is trading. He has stocks of them and start selling to you. Only two of you are trading the assets.

As a result he transferred the “captial loss of the year” to you.

But anyway it is also a tax fraud for sure.

You lost investment assets but you need immediate cash. These two financial needs are quite different.

If you did not incur debt in your trading/investment loss, there is no need to get fast cash. A retail job would be sufficient to put food on the table .

Messing with U.S tax authority is like messing with the biggest mafia in the country. I think being bankrupt on paper is much better than being in prison for tax evasion.

As MJ posted, you are asking the wrong questions and maybe you are here for the wrong reason.

I promise you, no one cares about meeting you in person or seeing your tax return. This forum exists to help people become successful entrepreneurs. Which is why I (with hesitation of wasting my own time) replied to you.

Let's reverse the tables, how would I go about this if it were me, not you ...

  1. I would look to understand the root cause of my problems. Tell my story and ask for help in finding the error in my decisions that led me to lose millions multiple times.
  2. I would look to establish credibility by contributing to others here. I'd ask myself "who can I help here today? What do I know that is useful to someone else and how do I reach them?"
But with you, it's all "external black swan events" that seem to cause you problems. You are wrong about that. Own your outcomes - it was YOU who made choices that led to today.

If you insist on blaming the world and looking for "whales" ... oh boy... I expect you to continue to perform the way you've always done, one step forward and two steps back.

Hopefully my post wakes you up and the doze of hard truth is welcome. If not, ask me if I care ;)
Great reply and I love to thank you for the way you handled it... I learn a lot from it.. Thanks and I hope the person in question will see the light and do better in his life too

MJ is a master of many things, but especially shutting scammers down with words. Epic.

Still sad if that guy actually lost all that money but it’s his fault. US is pretty kind on bankruptcy though…

I think he had stuff that he could have contributed.

He could have given us a bit of back story about how he lost 1.5M. (which is a feat in itself)

Maybe it was not crypto or indexes or whatever, but we could have learnt from his story by recognizing his mistakes.

He specifically said that he lost money through investments due to a "black swan event" (lol).

And based on the magnitude of his supposed loss ($1.5M), as well as the fact that he went up and down several times in short succession, his story is about a highly volatile asset - most likely crypto.

The only interesting thing that I've learned from this thread is that @MJ DeMarco has a great intuition on what kind of newcomers will show up on the forums for the wrong reasons and cause trouble.

But I'm curious on how did you did it, MJ. Was it because of his username, or because of the thing he wrote in "reason for joining the forum"?

Of course they are all my decisions and i alone take the blame for my losses. Now tell me, where did I blame someone else? Do you know what a black swan event is? I am a math person. The way I view the world is in terms of probability. The probability of the events that occurred in my life to cause me to lose all my money in such a short period of time are less than 1%. For a black swan event to occur so frequently in a person's life is absolutely terrible luck. Thanks to the tax code, I have a rare opportunity to make a significant amount of money back. Both parties benefit as both profit. There are very few individuals that are in the 37% tax bracket. Finding them is the hardest part and it seems like there are no wealthy Individuals on this site
Have you even read Nassim Taleb's 'Black Swan'?

I know the answer; no. Because if you did, you would not make such comments.

For a black swan event to occur so frequently in a person's life is absolutely terrible luck.

Because those are not black swan events, for they per definition can't happen as often.

You are a boom/bust trader with bad risk management, who thinks he can measure risk with math and probabilities, giving yourself a false sense of security (and getting rekt as a result).

But easier to blame 'luck' than your faulty methods. For if you did, you would not be able to scam someone into giving you money to inevitably blow up again.

For this poor fella Christmas comes out of nowhere every year!

Jokes aside, your response was well put.

The attached screenshot made me think he was like a poker player on tilt, with margin accounts. Gambling is not “black swan”.

It’s too bad that the OP wasn’t here to learn and find real solutions. The main reason this thread still have value to readers is to see that taking personal responsibility means you cannot say “yea it’s my fault but… “ no butts.

Yes, the "reason" field often tells me 100% of everything I need to know for new registrants.

At least he was kind enough to leave a review to warn people about you fraudsters hocking your subscriptions!!!
In the review he used the words "fraud", "fraudsters", "scam", and the phrase "They only want your money". That's four occurrences in only one small paragraph.

In psychology this is called projection. We see in the outer world the traits that we have ourselves. Kind of like a thief shouting "Thief!".

I think that people that come on the forum and start soliciting money, investments, or invite others to participate in any kind of monetary scheme should be instantly banned and/or reported to the authorities.

Legitimate people that actually run real businesses and play with big sums of money already have their own network of people and don't need to join online forums to find new victims investors.
