I need some advice on a business idea. I can't seem to find any information about it or anything like it besides being similar to the concept of American Pickers. Basically, I have been buying and reselling on ebay since I was in 4th grade. When I discovered craigslist several years ago, I began using that. Sometimes buying and reselling on craigslist and sometimes not. I have learned lots from trial and error and absolutely love gaining a more broad vision on what random things are worth. Just trying to give a little of my background. My idea is this. Everyday good deals get posted on Ebay, but are quickly snatched up do to the uncountable amount of competition. To narrow this thought, everyday people are posting good deals on craigslist, but are snatched up rather quickly as well (I know you can find good deals there if you really pay attention, but I am just making a point). To narrow even more, every week good deals are posted in classified ads in the paper, yet these are much fewer and many less deals. To narrow this idea once more, every week people are selling things in garage sales for pretty cheap but are also sold quickly and the amount of competition is growing on garage selling (I also feel like buying and reselling through garage sells will be nullified in a matter of time). So, at the base of all of these avenues of sales, a person has thinks this way: I have something of value that I do not use and I would like to sell. (A few weeks or months later) I still have this item, I wonder what it is worth. They look the item up as best they know how, but quickly get bored. They could also guess what it is worth. Next, they may decide they want to post it in a classified for either too much or too little money. If they are a little more savy, they may post it craigslist. Before posting craigslist, they may research a little bit and get an idea of what that item is worth or they may not and they could be one of the people who post an item far to cheaply in which someone value savy snatches the item up quickly. They could sell it through either of those avenues. Another route would be ebay where they try to figure out ebay and post it and let it go for market price. Now that you understand where I am coming from, here is my idea.
My plan is this, Door to Door Buying. The idea would be to go door to door looking for things that people are interested in selling and writing checks for things they don't want. Specifically in low income neighborhoods where families need money and are more open to the idea of letting me buy their things for cheaply. The idea would be to go BEFORE those good deals get posted on craigslist, classifieds or ebay and reaching people before they have time to process what that item is worth. It would also save people the effort of dealing with things.
There is a reason new pawn shops pop up so often (In my city at least), but I am not a pawn shop and would be able to give more money than such places. I am going beyond all of these buying avenues and would shoot to buy things at 50% value to resell them through craigslist and ebay.
Can I get some feedback on this idea. I am extremely motivated and couldn't believe in it more, but the fact that noone is doing this and nothing is on the internet about it, I am thinking I could be ignorant to something.
After all, God said it himself. Proverbs 15:22 Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.
Thank you so much for your input!!!!!!!!
