As I am writing this I am sitting on the side of the highway, in my sister's dead car, waiting for my parents to come back with some tools and parts.

We were currently on a 1000+ mile trip to my sister's college. As we were driving, something broke and we had to pull over. And when my parents had turned around to come and see what was wrong, I had the chance to suggest to them that we should have hired a professional mechanic to fix the car instead of letting my dad (who is as much of a mechanic as your average 10-year old girl) try and fix it.

And guess what they said.

"We can't afford to hire a mechanic!"

Now, this wouldn't really be a problem, except for that fact that they have spent AT LEAST $1000+ within the past week on things like eating at expensive pump houses, buying new (overpriced) shoes and designer clothes, indoor skydiving, racing higher end go-carts, and the list goes on.

So, as I wrap up this post, I'm still sitting on the side of the highway. And now, I am going to go back to drawing up prototype sketches for my new product idea while I think of more ways to escape my current life situation. :writing: :meh:

Well, hope you guys are having a better day then I am.

it's their money and they can do whatever they want with it.

Yup, and their priority is to look good and to feel good, not later, but now.

I completely agree- Not saying it is the right way of thinking, but with some people, specifically people who have been stuck in their ways for a long time, there is no use fighting it. Because in the end they are going to choose instant gratification every time.

Ha ha...yes, I've heard this many times. They're so broke they go to the casino once a month to get more points, to get more coupons, to get a free night at the casino. Shopping all the time because they have coupons. It's a 50% off your total bill. I could give you a whole list of everyone I know. lol

So true, I've honestly stopped trying because, like MJ said in TMF , they have to figure it out on their own. And if they never do figure it out, all I can do is open the door, but it's up to them to walk through.

You have to accept that the older generation will probably never understand you, or change. You have a totally different mindset. All you can do is accept them where they are. I'm facing the same thing, and there totally oblivious.

Well, hope you guys are having a better day then I am.
I would say this has been an AWESOME learning experience for you. It sounds like you are building a stronger barrier to spending your money on useless stuff when you start making some. As you are bringing this fact to awareness, you are growing. And with this growth, is success....today was a good day for you.
