Hi,

This is my first post (other than my introductory one) and I just want to share my experience with changing one's mindset and having motivation. Now, I'm by no means in the "fastlane" but I thought that my story might be interesting to share.

Since this past summer, I've been wanting to try business but I had no idea of what I wanted to do. Days went by and I never really came up with anything... I got kind of upset with myself and decided "Eff it, I'm going to start somewhere no matter how small." So I decided to sell something on Ebay. I had video games for the N64 that some even went for as much as $50 with 8-10 people bidding on them.

So I had my idea, my media to sell it, and I could get all the materials I needed for the transactions. Guess what happened? Nothing. Literally, for the next 2 or so weeks I did not make a single move because I figured I didn't really NEED to sell the games and it was such a small amount of money in comparison to these millionaires making $200k a pop. Eventually logic caught up with me, "If you can't sell these games that are sitting in your room and they obviously have a demand, you might as well not bother to even think about business." I got angry. Angry at myself for how lazy I was to just sell something that possibly millions of people do each day, and those people are probably not even millionaires themselves.

I made a decision in my head at that moment: "Tomorrow, I will put this item on Ebay. I don't know if it will sell, but I will look at this site and my item will be on it by tomorrow." I planned out what I would do: Go to the post office, buy packaging, get back home, create an Ebay and Paypal account, take pictures of the games, and list them. And I did it. I did all of those things that day, given there were slip up's and obstacles along the way: the mental doubts of not having experience with Ebay, needing to make three trips to the post office because I was stupid and kept forgetting things, having time limits and restrictions on my Paypal since I was new, and realizing all the "catches" of selling on Ebay, but in the end... there was nothing that big to stop me from actually selling the games.

In the end, I made $150, shared some classic games with people, and I got off my butt and did something. I learned that I had to have concrete plans to measure progress and a deterministic attitude that will follow plans through. I believe the attitude is the most important because it will just guide you to make the next decision. It's funny because I always hear that emotions and business should never be mixed, but I feel like if I never got emotionally invested with anger, I wouldn't have started making moves. Just my take.

I would like to develop this skill set to create something bigger, but now I'm feeling the exact same way I did during the summer like doubt and loss of ideas. The main things are the "what" and "how". Any thoughts or comments would be great to see though!
