Music that Motivates

For me, one of the things in my life that has always been there when I was down or needed a pick me up or a push, and many times that extra 'kick' to push me that one step further, is music. The messages and moods given by the multitudes of artists are countless, and there are way too many great and outstanding songs with positive and inspirational influence that I'm amazed that nobody else hasn't already started a thread like this here in such a positive and inspiring web presence.

I'm starting this thread for two reasons, the first, to see how many music lovers and contributors I can get to add songs and music that pumps you up, and gets you ready to take on the world. The second reason is to make a place for those to go and get pumped up, who may need a spot to go and listen to something that will inspire and make your path that much clearer. My hope is to eventually have that one tune here for you, whenever you need it!

The first song I'm gonna add is the one song that has always pushed me towards greater thoughts of achievement and innovation. It's message encompasses the entrepreneurial spirit, and strengthens your belief in yourself.

The song: Take Hold of the Flame -by Queensryche

Take Hold Of The Flame lyrics

We see the light of those who find
A world has passed them by
Too late to save a dream that's growing cold
We realize that fate must hide its face
From those who try
To see the distant signs of unforetold
Oh... oh, take hold

From a haze came a rage of thunder
Distant signs of darkness on the way
Fading cries scream of pain and hunger
But in the night the light will guide your way

So take hold of the flame
Don't you see life's a game
So take hold of the flame
You've got nothing to lose, but everything to gain

Ride, to a place beyond our time
Reach, for the edges of your mind, and you are there
See, that the light will find its way
Back to a place where it will stay, make it stay

Throw down the chains of oppression that bind you
With the air of freedom the flame grows bright
We are the strong, the youth united
We are one, we are children of the light

So take hold of the flame
Don't you see life's a game
So take hold of the flame
You've got nothing to lose, but everything to gain

The song I listen to when I need some inspirational music is Superchick - Stand Up. It's kind of a punkish song but the message is great.

Superchick - Stand Up:
Livin' in this nightmare
Destroyin' my dreams
Hauntin' to myself
What regret keeps hunting
But can I change my ways
Of counting the days
That keep on fadin' away
I keep losing today
Whan it's gone
And the hourglass falls
Will I have more than regret to show for it all
Or will I wake up and start living my dreams
Instead of lettin' this nightmare take control of me

Live today through the future's lens
Don't wanna wish you could rewind and play it again

Stand up write the soundtrack for your life
It doesn't happen to you,you happen to life
Stand up, do something with your light
It doesn't happen to you, you happen to life

You're bored, gotta wonder if there's more
Waiting for the dream life you thought you had in store.
Trying to feel something you can chase a life that's thrilla
Living on the edge smoking drinking dream killas.
Couldabeen shouldabeen wouldabeen..
what might your life have been
Today you're not a has-been, but at your life's end
will you have regrets than, have regrets than?
Are you ok with today if tomorrow is the end

Live today through the future's lens
Don't wanna wish you could rewind and play it again

Stand up write the soundtrack for your life
It doesn't happen to you, you happen to life
Stand up, do something with your light
It doesn't happen to you, you happen to life

We're all scared, gotta wonder whats out there,
Shooting down the ones who did what we wish we dared
Everybody's scared to Karaoke in the open
Afraid we're not as special as what we might be hoping so we're frozen haven't chosen
just going through the motions
Faith and belief, courage overrule emotions
Stand up and be counted for something when it's time
Decide where you stand, take your hands raise em high

Live today through the futures lens
Don't wanna wish you could reset and play it again

Stand up write the soundtrack for your life
It doesn't happen to you,you happen to life
Stand up, do something with your light
It doesn't happen to you, you happen to life

... On a slightly less motivational note, I can't keep the theme of using lala for snippets since they're shutting down.

I think there is not a single day, that I go without listening to music. Music has become a large part of my life, especially when I got an iPod. I listen to every genre possible (except death metal) and each song on my iPod has a specific meaning to me. Many of the songs I listen to, give an emotional stimulus within me that adds to my drive and motivation. The following are a few that I listen to in various situations.

1. Two Steps from Hell- Master of Shadows- I listen to this song often, especially when I'm running. For some reason, when I play this song, I can run faster for an extended period of time.

YouTube - Two Steps From Hell - Master Of Shadows

2. A Dark Knight- Hans Zimmer- I really enjoy Epic Soundtracks, it instills peace within me and makes my mind wander and think.

Part 1-

YouTube - The Dark Knight OST 14 A Dark Knight Part1

Part 2-

YouTube - The Dark Knight OST 14 A Dark Knight Part2

3. Someday- Flypside- Song by Flypside that has a lot of positive and uplifting lyrics. "Someday we'll break free from these chains and keep on fly'n" To me this means breaking free from the slowlane and flying (driving) on the fastlane.

YouTube - Flipsyde - Someday

4. Overtime-Ace Hood- Like I stated, I listen to all genres and this song gives a positive message. You must put in extra effort in everything you do to succeed. It is do or die. No one can tell you what you can and can't do. Just Do it. Follow your heart and passions.

Thank you so much to all of you for contributing to this thread. Music is really such a powerful force that does motivate me and many times can change my attitude from negative to positive. It's friendship will always be there for us.

Out of curiosity, does anyone here actually play an instrument or is in a band or musical group? I can honestly say that from my experience, the ability to perform, entertain and be creative within a group truly is an enjoyment that I wish everyone could experience. I don't really know how else to explain it except to say that I believe that it is good for the mind and spirit, and develops a different part of the person, and perhaps different abstracts of reasoning.

Anyway, fwiw, I use to be a drum instructor for several years and was a hired gun for a while with a couple symphony orchestras, not to mention I was a national drum-off champ and each and every one of my students has placed 1st, 2nd , or 3rd in competition, always, and if anyone is interested in getting to a level of performance, I would gladly e-teach you through the basics, and I would do it for no cost whatsoever for anyone here on this site.

Anyway...

Lamboman, I find it interesting how methodical you are with your music selection first for running, which keeps repeating the same build, with no resolve. I can definitely see how that would keep a person focused on long distances. And your selections for thought, with the dissonance of Hans Zimmer. Thank you and I tried to give you rep speed but a popup said that I couldn't because I gave you some speed previously but didn't mention it.

MJ, I truly feel your message with Stallone in his Lambo and his mansion toolin' around town like nobody's business. And the message of fight fight fight and never give up on the dream because there's nothing easy about getting there.

sswift, infinity, and SDJustin, if you guys get a second, would you mind posting links to the sound files and giving us a brief explanation of how these tunes inspire you.

I thank all of you for contributing and hope we will have many more contributions here of ALL music styles... If it moves ya, please post it!

My song that I posted above by queensryche, I didn't realize that the media source I selected was only going to play a portion of it so I apologize for the half-a**ed effort and I'm reposting it here, with a utube link: YouTube - Queensryche video - "Take Hold of the Flame" In this song, the 'flame' that the singer Geoff Tate is singing about in my interpretation is the fastlane. -Chris

Styx live in Chicago. -Blue Collar Man

YouTube - Styx - Blue Collar Man (Live)

Blue Collar Man

Written by tommy shaw
Lead vocals by tommy shaw

Give me a job, give me security
Give me a chance to survive
I’m just a poor soul in the unemployment line
My god, I’m hardly alive
My mother and father, my wife and my friends
I see them laugh in my face
But I’ve got the power, and I’ve got the will
I’m not a charity case

I’ll take those long nights, impossible odds
Keeping my eye to the keyhole
If it takes all that to be just what I am
I’m gonna be a blue collar man

Make me an offer that I can’t refuse
Make me respectable, man
This is my last time in the unemployment line
So like it or not I’ll take those

Long nights, impossible odds
Keeping my back to the wall
If it takes all that to be just what I am
I’m gonna be a blue collar man

Keeping my mind on a better life
When happiness is only a heartbeat away
Paradise, can it be all I heard it was
I close my eyes and maybe I’m already there

How about "Don't Stop at the Top", by the Scorpions.
Or the Rocky IV soundrack.

Lyrics for Don't Stop at the Top":

You never take the easy way
The wind is blowing straight into your face
You never ever close your eyes
For any trouble that may cross your way
There's no risk that you're not taking
Not a mountain that's too high
Spread your wings, You're gonna make it
To the best time of your life
Don't stop at the top
Touch the sky before you drop
You never make a compromise
Your will has got the power that won't break
You never say never to a challenge
That will come along the way
There's no risk that you're not taking
Not a mountain that's too high
Spread your wings, you're gonna make it
To the best time of your life
Don't stop at the top
Touch the sky before you drop
Never stop! Don't stop at the top

Kid Rock -American Badass

YouTube - Kid Rock - American Badass (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO WITH LYRICS)

The reason why Kid Rock aka Bobby is such an inspiration to me is because we use to jam in the same neighborhood way back in the day and back then, LA, New York and Seattle bands it seemed held the spotlight forever and outside of a couple of what we called, "tax write-off" bands (someone who would get signed but the label wouldn't put money into them), Detroit was dead on the map. I may be wrong but I believe the last artist to make it huge prior to him and MnM was Madonna in the 80s.

What's funny, and if anybody from back then reads this, I'm sure they'll get a laugh out of it too, but I use to work with Bobby's sister, and keep in mind he never EVER quit or gave up the dream so he had a couple minor label CDs out that were big in Detroit 10 years prior to his break out, but not National. But I asked her what she would do if he ever made it big, and her answer was, "My brother's a f'n a'hole"! lol... Bet she isn't saying that now

Anyway, for those of you who have musical ambitions and are talented enough to get a deal, what Kid Rock did to make an impression with the label was use the initial money the label gave him to buy his own CDs which inturn caused the label to put more money into him seeing that he was selling... :eusa_clap:

YouTube - Scorpions - Don't Stop at the Top

Sorry, thought it would be like facebook and myspace on posting videos.

"World Start Turning", by Rick Springfield is a good one too.

I was born in the Southern Land
Yeah, a million miles from America
And whatever we wanted was just a matter of choosing
And I was raised in the Great White Way
Just like all those kids in America
And the T.V. taught us to win with no thought of losing (then I woke up)

This is the real world, the real town without pity
This is the real world, in the shadow of the city
This is the real wheel,
You don't get too many spins
This is the real deal, not everybody wins

Just another soul lost in America
I was so frustrated and I got so lonely
It almost took a miracle to open my eyes

World Start Turning (turn into the wind)
World Start Turning (some things were never meant to be)
I've been standing on the beach
Crying to the raging sea
I was falling, falling
Heart start beating (turn into the wind)
Heart start beating (some things were never meant to be)
Made a promise to myself
I'll never get that low again

We were taught if man believes in
What he wants in America
It's only a matter of time, just a matter of seasons
But I walk through the houses of dreams that died
I see the ones still trapped there the ones that tried
But spent the rest of their lives wondering why
And searching for reasons (and they never wake up)

This is the real world, you've got to know just when to bend
Here in the world, precious little matters in the end
This is the real world, the real town without pity
This is the real world, in the shadow of the city

Just another soul lost in America
I was so frustrated and I got so lonely
It almost took a miracle to open up my eyes

World Start Turning (turn into the wind)
World Start Turning (some things were never meant to be)
I've been standing on the beach
Crying to the raging sea
I was falling, falling
Heart start beating (turn into the wind)
Heart start beating (some things were never meant to be)
Made a promise to myself
I'll never get that low again

You can't stop the world, cant' stop the world

Never could settle for where I was
Too many places I was trying to be
The times I succeeded and the times I failed
You know that no one will remember but me

World Start Turning, World Start Turning
I've been standing on the beach
Crying to the raging sea
I was falling, falling

Heart start beating (turn into the wind)
Heart start beating (some things were never meant to be)
Made a promise to myself
I'll never get that low againâ€Â¦

Not strictly music, but the combination of the Banana Splits song (aka Hit-Girl's Theme) with this clip always makes me crack up - linked rather than embedded due to potentially offensive content - language and violence may offend some viewers.

Yes, R.I.P. RJ Dio, indeed. "Rainbow in the Dark" and "Man on the Silver Mountain" were classics.
