Update time.

Finalized consulting project for $2000.00 today. Someone in my network referred me, and after a scoping session they agreed to work with me as a third party consultant for a fixed rate of $2000.00.

It feels good, because that's the most anyone has ever paid me to do anything without being in a company. I'm in a weird place, because I've shown myself I can sell, but I haven't sold enough to keep myself from needing a job. I will continue to try to capture more leads, and a job, at the same time.

Not sure where this path will put me, but at least I know for sure I can make it through September now.

That's amazing news - well done!

If you still need other income get a part time job, but keep going with this. You are already proving to other people you provide value - your referral is evidence of this. This is the beginning.

Almost every interview I get the interviewer is shocked and concerned that I chose not to participate in laying people off. One thing is for sure, if I'm ever requested to do that work again, I'm sorry, but I'm putting on the executioner's mask and doing it lol.

You aren't going to want to here this...but I would work on yourself through (1) exercising and (2) learning relentlessly about business, success, and marketing.

Working on yourself will give you personal wins and confidence. And with that confidence...surround yourself with good friends and network with them. They'll see that new confidence in you...and recommend you for work. Without confidence...you'll appear desperate at your interview...and you will have already lost.

Cut the fat. Watching tv, movies, eating crappy food, beer, etc. This will lower your confidence.

Up your resume...to increase your changes of getting hired. Practice interview questions...don't go in there unprepared.

Go to church. Because if you do go homeless...there are people who would go through great lengths to help you...and a great place to network for work.

Job search nation wide. I was stuck searching in just my area...and never considered searching out of state where I had family. I moved out of state...although still working for myself...and just getting out of my loser environment motivated me to grind even more.

And once you land that job...start working on your business in your spare time!

Oh...and maybe you should tell people here what city you are in...so they can help. Best of luck to you!

Welp, I'm approaching rock bottom. Still haven't regained employment after getting let go in June, and have failed to launch a business in any form despite trying to do so. I may end up homeless.

Willing to listen to any advice.

Almost all of the things you recommended I'm already doing. That's the problem with telling someone you know nothing about what to do, you waste your time being redundant.

Almost every interview I get the interviewer is shocked and concerned that I chose not to participate in laying people off.

You said you were willing to listen to any advice, so:

WTF! Good god man, stop telling that story in your interviews! No wonder you aren't getting hired!

"Yes, please hire me, but I'll quit when you ask me to do something I don't like. And not only that, I won't even see anything wrong with it since I've just told you about it in an interview..."

Find a different way to talk about why you left, and take some time to put serious thought into what the other person wants to hear. If you've been discussing this and thinking that it's ok, you're probably doing other things in the interview that you shouldn't too. I don't even know what else to say since this sounds so far off the mark. I don't want to sound like an a$$ or be too presumptive, but this is NOT a sign of being good at interviews or knowing how to read situations. If you're shocking your interviewer, you're almost certainly doing something very, very wrong. And if you're shocking multiple interviewers in exactly the same way, and yet you keep repeating it... Man, you've got to work on the awareness...

Start scouring youtube for interview skills. Do mock interviews with someone that will give you real feedback. Download lists of interview questions and get comfortable answering all of the. etc. etc. Put yourself in the shoes of the person doing the interview. Your job is to make it easier for them to hire you (and to justify hiring you) than anyone else on their list.

I am kind of in the same boat. This whole year I have been jumping around differerent jobs because they were part time or temporary. Got a job out of state, a seasonal job, but I quit early because they set me up with a person who was a huge control freak. It got really ugly as this guy was trying to retaliate about some things I reported and a whole bunch of stuff.

I have been looking for jobs non-stop. Looking for jobs in my field and even looking out of state. I have even been applying to shitty labor jobs. I have since been selling nearly everything I own. I made about $1800 in half a month doing this. I only keeping the essentials; clothes, books, food, bedding, etc. Everything else is useless and replaceable. I am planning on moving to another area and just hustle it. Find a place and find a job and just work my way up. I know I have to improve my skills and my visibility to the market. So I have plans to gain more skills and experience in my field (biology). But, in the meantime I will be working on Fastlane too. It is just hard because when your mind is in survival mode you can't think of anything else.

On a side note: If you are in a state where Cannabis is legal look into working at a Cannabis farm. Even just an ordinary farm or orchard. Harvest is coming up and they need workers. Since I plan to move to Oregon I see tons of listings for Marijuana laborers. There are even job agencies posting listings too. All you need is a worker's permit. It took me like 20 mins to read the glossary words and take a super easy exam. I uploaded the certificate into the site and gave them my information to run a background check. Less than 12 hours later they approved me. By the way, you can take the test for free, as many times as you need, and you pay nothing until the permit is ready to be printed online. So there is no risk of money up front. I am already talking to a farm that wants an interview in a few days. The permit is $100.

Have a lawn mower sitting around? Can easily make $200 a day with a little hustle.
Good idea. I also recommend he search Craigslist for those one day to couple days gigs on there. I have made a little money in the past helping some people move stuff around their house or do landscape work with them. I see listings for people wanting their lawn cut, helping them paint, helping them move, assisting a disabled person/elderly.

I once put an ad up myself with all the things I was willing to do. I even put "companionship". I had an escort agency contact me and ask me if I wanted to be a driver for strippers that paid several hundred dollars a night. The thing was, I was already moving from the area and never participated in that. The story here is to illustrate that you can hustle some way, some how.

I have been homeless briefly and it sucks. Here is the thing though. If you can get rid of everything you own, this will make it easier for you to move around. You can even sleep in your car, or camp out at a campsite, for very little money or free. I am actually thinking about doing this for a month or two while I build up money.

Had two great interviews this week, finally starting to make some progress. Investing almost all of my time into networking and preparation. Frustrating, but things will get better if I don't give up.

Be proud of yourself.

And prepare to do even better next week.

Sometimes in these situations you tend to be scatter brained. I've learned recently that success is built sequentially rather than simultaneously. It is a good reminder when you're stressing out. You just need to get that first stepping stone, then move to the next, then the next, etc.

It is also very helpful to create a "success list". People tend to write out a to-do list but they get caught up in being busy rather than productive. Try to focus on the 1-2 things that will propel you forward (basically, the 20/80 rule). This is all something I need to work on myself. I recently got a call for a job and it looks like it will work out. But my mind is already thinking 3-4 steps ahead. So, I gotta slow down and think of only the next step and work my way up in a sequence.

Get on Craigslist and post in the "room wanted" section. Advertise your skillsets / experience and see if you can trade that for someone's couch or extra room. There's tons of families that could use a babysitter. You can work on your biz / side hustle while babysitting and living rent-free. Good luck

Just an FYI - I did this in 2011 in San Diego and some guy was nice enough to give me his couch in exchange for dog sitting (he worked two jobs)

So, your sitting there unemployed and decided to go to an entrepreneur forum? F*ck this entrepreneur shit!!! It's a damn lie! You've been sold a DREAM! Pick up a F*cking hammer and get to work, son. This is the best economy in 50 F*cking years buy a car and sleep in it and in 3 months you'll have several thousand saved, even on minimum wage!

There is NO SUCH THING as homelessness. the folks with the "anything helps" signs are just poor salesmen. ANYONE, literally anyone, can earn money to buy a $1500 car and sleep in it. There are folks in silicon valley making 100k living in vans. Nothing wrong with that! F*ck parents! They don't have a clue and are terrible for advice.

I think that is a low average in some places. I've always wanted to go out and do it just to see how much I could make but it seems like hard work standing there in the sun or cold all day. I don't think I could do it over an hour or 2 at the most. I'd have to go get something to eat and take a nap. :)

lol I don't really pay attention to those points.

I doubt I ever do it. I should get someone to do it with me and then donate the money. Maybe if I had someone with me I could stay out there more than an hour but I don't think I could stand there very long by myself, looking crazy and no one to talk to except myself..... oh wait, that's what I do every day :)
