No matter the financial reward, unless you enjoy what you do (be it paid or otherwise) there is no satisfaction in life. And retail therapy is a poor substitute. (That Dopamine hit doesn&#039;t last very long, then you need another shiny new object).<br /> <br /> I was recently talking to a women in her early 60&#039;s who worked for minimum wage in a care home. They were making her work the Christmas holidays despite the fact that her shift rota meant it was someone else&#039;s turn that year.<br /> <br /> Management just shit on her and she just rolled over and took it. I asked her why she continued working there and it was because she felt needed by the residents, even if the management treated her like dirt.<br /> <br /> She could just about get by on the money but her motivation was the pleasure she received in helping individuals she had build relationship with. She was relatively poor but happy.<br /> <br /> Some of the poorest people I have ever met were the Nubian&#039;s in North Africa. They were also the happiest people I have ever had the pleasure in knowing. And they were at their most happiest when they were sharing the little they had with you. A wonderful people.</div>

This isn&#039;t because they were earning more money... it&#039;s because it meant more hours and way more stress in the NYC banking culture. Not to mention almost all of them bought stuff they couldn&#039;t afford... <br /> <br /> Guy I worked with told me he &quot;couldn&#039;t leave&quot; because he loves being able to tell people he works for (big well-known investment bank) at dinner parties. <br /> <br /> Spending 80 hours/week for years and years for the one or two times he can brag to people that he works at a prestigious job... lol.</div>

I&#039;m sure this 80 hrs a week guy feels the same and justifies it.<br /> <br /> Once I was past the job and I looked back, I started to notice how depressed and miserable I had been in the negative environment of the Scripted world. <br /> <br /> Luckily I was laid off or I never would have had my F this moment.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">I was halfway reading the article and I just stopped. <br /> <br /> I wouldn&#039;t be surprised if he exaggerated it a bit. Kinda like the writer wants to condemn those hardworking successful fellow because they just...WORKED HARD and became successful. <br /> <br /> The writer wants a free pass to wealth basically. I would assume that the writer only heard the negative side of working and ignored the positives. At the end of the day, money is the reward for what you&#039;ve contributed, the value you gave and its up to you how to use it.</div>
