In my "bucket list" I had learn to surf as a pending item.

For the 4th of July weekend, I went with some friends and the kids to the beach to surf.

A friend of mine has two boards and offered to teach me how to do it.

We went to Ocean City, MD and spent a couple of days learning it.

I was sore in places I did not know I had.

But had a blast.

That is part of the "Living Life" series.

Borrow surfboard: $0
Spent 4 nights at friends' house $0
Food $150
Gas $100
Sunblock and rash guard $50
Surf lessons for the kids $120

Total cost: Around $400 or so.

Living life -- yup. you got it. Priceless.

And no. I did not need a million bucks in my bank account to enjoy life.

I was actually at the beach yesterday in Long Branch, New Jersey. They have surfing lessons there too. I spoke to the kids in the shop and I'll probably give it a shot this summer.

It's definitely not he same as Hawaii. Lol. I was in Waikiki beach for a couple of days but we partied a little and wasn't any condition to surf. I figured I'd do it when I got to Kauai, but the whole time I was there, there were HUGE waves. I didn't think it was the best idea to learn to surf on waves like that.

It gave me a reason to HAVE TO go back to Hawaii!

This is the only thing I regret not doing in Hawaii.

Ditto. I've been to Hawaii twice and still have not surfed. Part of it was due to lack of extra funds, and lack of time. Next time I go back I'm signing up for surfing school. My friends out there didn't surf, so they couldn't teach me LOL. Can't wait to go back.

OP, you're right, you don't need a lot of money to have fun and enjoy life.
