This is for me, only.
I have no intent on helping anybody, until hitting it big! But, I will, AFTER!
I will present things here as they are, no sugarcoating!
Since, my last post in 2023, have passed a little more than 2 years. I still hold a corporate, job, savings have improved and time seems to running fast.
My Life's puzzle can be distilled in the below moments (proud and sad ones):
- Living in Greece during the worst depression, a recession that it could be compared to 1929-1933 in US, since GDP has lost 25 percent and unemployment peaked at 28 percent. Since, then improvements have been made, and the economy seems to rebound.
- Having two degress, one in engineering and one in finance, both master's (Unis are free here).
- Changing SIX Jobs in 5 years, in the corporate world, mostly trying things.
- Having Severe Money Problems.
- Experimenting with various entrepreneurial ideas, asking for funding from VCs.
- Having the most amount of savings I know, in my social circle, a typical salary is Greece is 1-1.5k net per month, in euros.
- Learning English in almost a native level (mostly by my own) - useful for international business and acquiring information.
- Learnt basic social skills, and sales skills and read a lot about marketing copy. I was too shy younger.
- Learnt basic coding skills in Python. I created some websites for fun, and I use vibe coding tools like Replit, and Google Antigravity.
- Having Mental Breakdown (twice).
- Reading about 300 (seriously) or more, books, on personal development and business related books in my university years. And financially, I hadn't arrived anywhere.
Possible Projects / Side Hustles:
1. MomentumLab - a quantitative research platform focused on momentum signals in equities. Made out of a Vibe Coding tool, like Google Antigravity or Replit. It will fetch free data based on past prices and choose top N stocks or percentiles of a chosen universe like (S&P 500) and rebalancing them, it will backtest historical results, and give charts, graphs, and metrics. The purpose is to empower (through subscription) retail investors make better investment decisions with a no code quantitative tool, since quants are the future in Wall Street. It will give investors who manually want to implement the portfolio, stock signals based on each strategy chosen, taking into account the risk profile of the investor. It will have enormous value in countries outside the us, which do not tax trading activity. Big Disclaimer, it will be not an investment advice platform, but a research tool.
Note: Momentum is a well known anomaly in factor investing and academia, which can be utilized to create excess returns.
2. Heat Pump Supply and Installation Biz - that correlates to my daily job, since I sell them, troubleshoot them, and have the required specialization. It fits well the millionaire fastlane tenets, since it cannot be automated. Profit Margins could be about 40 percent. Typical Project of 10-15k, and so is working capital. The demand is booming in Greece and EU, due to Russia - Ukraine War, which made a massive shift from natural gas heaters to electricity. It is a real business, in the real world. Can be run alone, to a limited extent as a freelancer and create 6 figure income. Core bottlenecks include Capital & Time & Location. Capital to Scale cause you need stores and employees and Time of installers and plumbers. The market is completely unorganized here and small. My marketing plan was to create a series of calculators, of chosing the right heat pump, since nobody offers that, and attract people through google ads.
My most significant problem is how to market these, in order to attract eyeballs. I mean, am I thinking straight, or will I burn my money on bothering people with ads? By the way, huge advertising budget isn't on my list. I have genuine value to add in both!
Also, if there are guys in Athens, I will be glad to meet them since I want to build a real inner circle here, made out of a singular passion - business - and mutual contribution.
I know my projects seem unrelated, I am little weird, indeed.
What do you guys suggest? I will be glad to hear opinions, of where to focus my energy on.
P.S. Since, I realized how limited and scarce opportunities are in my homeland, I got into a depressive state, but now feel the spark again, and I am more motivated than ever.
P.S. If none of business ideas succeed in the next 3 years or generate a little income, I had made plans to come to the US, through the PhD route (I am 28).
