My local area has a place called QC CoLab Makerspace.
It is a Geeks Dream.
Hobbyists make robots and arcade machines. There is a dedicated room for 3D Printers.
There is a library shelf full of books such as "Dummies for Ruby/Python" and "Dummies for Engineering" etc.
In the back there's a woodshop, auto shop and painting/clay sculpting shop.
The basement is rented out to a bunch of local artists and a Fencing club. I'm renting out some space and turned it into a film/photography studio.
All this for only $35/month. Well a lot of the stuff is still funded by the local governments/donors.
They also hold out events like coding for kids and competitions.
Wish every city had something like this.
