Is it possible to make a networking site using wordpress?

You could make a very simple one but if you were going for something complex like facebook you would need to create it from scratch.

Yeah, all I would need for right now is a simple one for purposes of experimenting with an MVP. However, for later on, what programming languages should I know for creating one from scratch, maybe just simple HTML, PHP, etc? Thanks.

Brandon, You can do pretty amazing things with Wordpress. Add S2member and bbpress plugins.

Yeah HTML and PHP are good (and maybe some Javascript) but remember it really takes commitment to learn this kind of stuff. It's not as easy as it sounds.

Do you want a social network or membership website?

Wordpress can do the membership website, but for a social network there are better platforms. There is a good open source one out there but can't remember the name. I am sure you will find it.

There are lots of social networking frameworks better suited for that. You are not a programmer. So hire one, at the very least consult with a competent one. Or you will be heading towards the wrong direction.
