Hello Fastlaners,
After long lurking on this forum I decided to register and introduce myself. In 2022 I’ve Read The Millionaire Fastlane , UNSCRIPTED and the Great Rat Race Escape . This is the only internet forum I am registered on, since I am not involved in social media (no Facebook, no Instagram, no Reddit, no TikTok). I do have good friends and have a social life though.
Currently, I study Mechatronics Engineering in the Netherlands doing an internship at an offshore company. What I really like about Mechatronics is that you learn to design and manufacture real things, like robots, machines or other (hardware) products. I gained some basic skills in PLC programming, python programming, microcontroller programming, welding, mechanical CAD design and electronic design. Besides work and school I try to learn Spanish.
In my life, I have been fortunate to have run into friends in the gym, at work or at school who came from wealthy families. The common denominator was that all of them owned businesses. Another thing I noticed was that not all of those people owned PhD’s or were exceptionally smart. This is something that the school system really makes you believe. I see entrepreneurship as the only way to secure wealth. Intuitively, I have always been suspicious of investing and the promise of getting enough pension when you’re old.
In the past years I tried several things to earn a side income, but I failed. Some of the things I tried are:
I think the reason I failed was because I didn’t pay attention to what the market really wants.
As I said, currently I work in the offshore industry. I met people with a lot of experience in their field. They contribute a lot to the companies wealth, yet not for their own. They earn a steady pay check. These are smart people with master studies and PhD’s. Often I think it’s necessary to have a master or PhD, since it gives you more authority. People thrust that you are an expert then. Maybe others can relate?
I am still a bit struggling in choosing a path. I do see opportunity in the world of offshore, since a lot has to be done for the energy transmission. Also, I am expecting huge labour shortages, since younger generations often want hip jobs as influencer or lifestyle coach.
If somebody has any questions, then feel free to ask.
I want to thank @MJ DeMarco for writing these amazing books.

In the past years I tried several things to earn a side income, but I failed. Some of the things I tried are:
- Make an automatic car toy with my 3D printer. See picture below.
- Make an automatic roller blind with ESP32.
- I also made a blog website with the Django Web Framework where I wrote about some of my (school) projects.
I think the reason I failed was because I didn’t pay attention to what the market really wants.
