Hello Fastlaners,
Warning: long post
First of all I would like to excuse myself in advance and ask you to be patient with me for my level of English as it isn’t my first language.
I’m a 27 year old student. I have been studying for 8 years now and finally finished writing my master thesis and I only have to defend it. I know it is a long time for someone to study. The reason for this is that I always worked 4 days a week, sometime 7, to support my living and pay for my studies. I never actually wanted to study, I did it for my parents and because that was expected from my environment, silly me. This has resulted in a law degree on which I’m not planning to use as a job-like thing and debt of 60.000 euros, silly me. I always knew I wanted to start my own business and be my own boss. I have made a lot of bad choices in the past and this has resulted in my present situation. I have have a lot of job offers in big law and accounting firms with a nice figure salary but I have turned them all down. Everybody around me is declaring me for an idiot and it was really hard for me to take this step. But I know that if I take one of those job offers. I’m going to get stuck working for someone else for the rest of my life. Everybody around me is saying that it is better to have a high paid salary and have the security that employment offers than to take the risk I am taking. I always saw it differently, I don’t want to get stuck in a golden cage, it’s still a cage. Since I was a child I wanted to be my own boss and always thought that all the advantages of being your own boss far exceed the risk of entrepreneurship or a good salary and all other benefits that employment may offer.
So I’m really glad to have found you guys here because I only hear and see people around me that are negative towards my dream of having my own multi-millionaire business. I have read MJ’s book and several other books multiple times and subscribed for the INSIDERS forum. I hope to learn a lot from all of you and I will try to bring value for other as well. I say try because that is one of my weaknesses, I’m a person who mostly watches and reads a lot but finds it difficult to participate to a forum.
My strengths:
· Persistent
· Creative with solutions (still searching for problems)
· Really social when I want to be (but not social when I don’t want to be)/ good with human psychology
· Confident
· Perfectionist
· I don’t mind putting in hours and hours of work
My weaknesses:
· I tend to be very very lazy if I’m not busy/don’t have a lot to do
· Perfectionist
· I have the tendency to put others before myself
My goals for this aspect of my life:
· Short term:
o Create an income within a year that is big enough to quit my current job
o Have my own business
· Mid term:
o Be worth 1 million euro’s within 5 years
· Long term:
o Be worth at least 10 million euro’s within 10 years and go for retire if i wanted to.
My apologies for this long post but I will also use it as a reference/review point for myself. Please feel free to ask questions and I’m looking forward into getting to know you.
