I think Wordpress has solidified itself as the top "off the shelf" solution.

In 2022 which framework is most suitable for a custom website?

Code-less frameworks are great too. Webflow works great.

For custom I like to use either HTML with good starting theme, then re-purpose design elements as needed. Bootstrap or Bulma are great at this.

I also strongly support headless CMS stacks (or Jamstack) as there are no servers needed, its more secure, cheaper to host, etc. Headless CMS also doesn't require you to format each page.

Ghost is great for membership style sites and a nice alternative to WP.

If its a simple page to get business ASAP then carrd works great!

It depends on what functionality you will need from the website/app.

For something that doesn’t require a lot of custom functionality, you might get away with a no/low code builder like wordpress, webflow or shopify for e-commerce.

If you do need custom functionality there are again many frameworks like react and vue that can allow you to go really custom.
