I have been wracking my brain lately to see the upside of the falling doller/falling economy. The best I can come up with is to borrow as much money as you can now and invest in places where it will not be affected, even to the extent of buying various foriegn currencies.

Curious what others think the upside can be besides cheaper homes etc. In other words, there will be those businesses that do well in a recession/ depression, what does everyone think those businesses will be?

What needs does a recession/depression create? How can these needs be met? What needs do people have no matter the economic climate? How can a business help change the economy? Does the business help people help themselves?

I think the businesses that can answer the needs will fair the best.

LOL
TheGreatBear, you stinker.
You know I bought Citigroup at higher.

Okay, Kurt, let me see if I understand your statement...
You think we're going to hell in a handbasket
yet you want to invest now?
Why not wait until we're truly in hell?

I plan to do my usual,
pick up good stocks while they're on sale,
then watch them drop even more
before they eventually go back up.

I'm looking at a small Cdn REIT right now
with no debt
cashflowing like the Amazon
paying a healthy distribution
(yet far below cashflow)
and trading at below book.
What's not to like?

Gold & Silver work. Easy to buy with ETFs.

Personally about 2 years ago I started buying silver bullion. Started at $10 and it is now over $16. The closer we get to "hell in a handbasket" the higher it will go.

If we actually get there, I may still be able to buy a couple loaves of bread. :)
