Hi All
I don't know if this the correct place to even post this so apologies if not.........
I'm reaching out to anyway who has validated an idea using a landing page and a mock "buy now" button and tracked user activity through google analytics......
A bit about my project so far.......after doing some research I believe I may have found a niche which I could serve. After searching through forums and blog posts for this particular industry I created a landing page to sell the product, which addresses the problem, and a fake buy now button which is all connected and tracked using google analytics. Obviously this is with the plan of driving users within that niche to the site and monitoring their activity. Now.......my issues are as follows
/
Bounce rate - My bounce rate is currently measuring at 75% which is far too high for my liking. Potentially this could be because the original method I used to get my website name out there was to post a few fake conversations I had with myself using 2 separate forum accounts I set up on a forum relating to the niche. Therefore majority of visitors so far have been from the members forum which doesn't necessarily mean these people were "buyers" but potentially was interested in seeing what the product was and it's benefits etc.......This is my own conclusion anyway.
Conversion rate - Out of 40 visitors so far there has only been 1 user who has clicked the "buy now" button. They are then presented with a page which apologizes that our payment system is down and to try again in 24 hours. Interestingly, this person has revisited the website several times over the last 4 - 5 days or so. Essentially my conversion rate so far is a lot lower than I was hoping for
(
Moving forward in to the 2nd phase of my project, I've set up a google ad words campaign using a free £75 credit voucher they sent (I have to spend £25 to start with which is cool) but I really want to try and drill down on why users are not clicking through to "buy now". So my next plan is to have an exit popup installed on to the home page which will activate when the user closes down the home page after landing on it. I would like to have this as a very short web form which gives a user maybe 3 - 5 radio button options to click to confirm why they don't wish to proceed and maybe a small comments box if they wish to add anything else.
Has anyone ever tried this method before? was it a success? and are there any risks relating to it? I know the form won't be completed by all visitors but even if I get 1 in 10 visitors surely its better than nothing. At least i'll be able to understand what may be driving potential buyers away.....
