Hi everyone, I just started a while ago a blog on motivation with my friend and plan on expanding it on all social media, I am starting small and writing a lot but then plan to start a video blog with interviews and also start a business from this and start a brand, where I would then start selling merch from my brand. What do you think? I really plan on quitting the rat race and starting the unconventional life. So with my studies ( which I study hard to get a scholarship rather than work) I am working really hard all day with communities and branding and learning programming. Really hope everything will go as planned.

Hey Georges, let me see if I sort this out.
  • You have a blog that you started that focuses on motivation.
  • You want to expand into social channels and Vlogs (ie YouTube)
  • You want to use this to begin building a brand (personal brand I assume? ie Tony Robbins)
Here's where things start to fall apart for me...
  • You want this to become a business... but you haven't really defined what that business will look like in your vision.
  • And you want to start selling merch for this brand.
  • ...but you're studying and working with communities on branding and programming?
I'm having a hard time understanding what your end goal is. You talk about merch, a 'business' that isn't very defined, and ...programming?

What is it you want to do?

My recommendation is to take a minute and really work on that vision. What exactly is it that you want? Make that vision crystal clear before you start taking action.

Meh...

Everyone wants to be a motivator or coach these days. How will you be different?

BTW, I see you just created your account yesterday. Have you read the books this forum is based around?

You are right, I am really like writing a blog but I think I must just keep it as a side hobby rather than my hustle? I really like programming and developing apps and websites although I am still a beginner but I am also very interested in other types of business. To be honest, I am pretty much lost and I am still young (18) which may be the reason for my confusion. Thank you for your contribution and I will watch the video asap.

I definitely think you should slow down a tad and try to focus on one thing, it sounds like. This fell apart pretty quick haha.

Nothing wrong with entering a crowded market, especially one as big and lucritive as motivation/self-help. However, @AllenCrawley is spot on in asking how will you be different. What will set you apart from the competition and provide value to the marketplace. Do you have a niche? Could you use your age to your advantage and be the "teen whisperer"? There are a lot of lost teenage souls out there and most with disposable income.

I see your problem as lack of focus rather than not having a good idea. Write your goals down (and not "drive a ferrari by age 20"). Your business goals. What do you see your business being in 3, 5, 10 years. Then fill in the blanks on how you will get there. What steps will you need to take? Step one, step two, step three...and follow them. You will have to tweak them along the way but stay the course.

And quit thinking of it as a "hustle". That makes it sound like you're chasing the money. Look at it as building long term value that you are providing your market.

This is not really an idea...

You're just adding to an already crowded space.
