Hey there,
As a freelance Data Engineer and Amazon FBA Seller, I realised something: accounting software sucks. All the options available are bloated and difficult to use. There's also a lot of manual work that accountants and business owners have to deal with. So I decided to build my own thing: Nummo.
It all started in early December last year. I began writing code full time and feature scope creep quickly kicked in. Three months in, the codebase was a monstrous hodgepodge of extensive test suites, integrations, and abstractions. Sprinkled in there was a mess of try/except blocks too, which led me to hate Python.
At that point I fell in love with another idea (Foretype). I shipped it in 2 weeks and it only took 2 more weeks to realise nobody wanted it. I shelved it and my accounting darling whispered again. This was something that had never happened before. Once I paused a project, I never looked back. But this time was different.
Shipping Foretype so fast taught me something: better to launch something broken than nothing at all. So I applied this to Nummo. I shipped a landing page and a live demo in 3 weeks.
I got 5 presales in 36h without a live product.
It felt great to make internet money with something that I had built on my own. I had already made money with Amazon FBA but this was different.
Now that I've validated the demand, I'm focused on building the full product. This past month I've been fully immersed in dev work, and I'm enjoying every minute of it. I'm going to release a free self-hosted version this week and the managed version in the next 4-6 weeks.
