Over the last few months I’ve been teaching myself AI, Replit, website development, and digital storytelling. But this project didn’t start a few months ago. I’ve actually been researching and learning about this murder case and the events surrounding it for years.
The project is:
MorristownGhost.com
It’s based on a real 1833 murder case that happened in Morristown, New Jersey. A French immigrant named Antoine LeBlanc murdered members of the Sayre family in one of the most shocking crimes in early American history.
What happened afterward was arguably even stranger:
The website is called MorristownGhost.com because the story goes beyond the murders themselves. One of the local legends involves Phoebe (slave & murder victim), a ghost said to haunt the grounds of former bars, restaurants, and buildings connected to the property and surrounding area. Over the years, locals have shared stories of strange sightings, unexplained experiences, and paranormal encounters associated with these locations. Whether those stories are historical fact, folklore, or something in between, they have become part of Morristown’s identity.
That’s why the site explores three different layers of Morristown’s past:
One of my goals is to preserve the history while clearly separating fact from folklore. Using AI and Replit, I’ve been building:
