Hello there. Looking for opinions regarding the BBB. They have sent me an email asking me to complete a form so they will have up-to-date information on my business (apparently it's not in response to a specific inquiry from a consumer).
I have no interest in joining them, mainly because years ago when I was even more naive than I am now, they pulled my chain for months, sitting on my membership application after having charged my account. Eventually I threatened to file a chargeback and they reversed the charge, but the experience with them was so terrible I wanted to file a complaint with the BBB against the BBB.
They did kind of a bait-and-switch thing too, after I signed up initially, I learned all I would get is a little plastic plaque and a sticker I could place in my window to attract passerby into my office --- so all the pedestrians walking by my 9th floor office window would see "Hey, this guy is a member of the BBB, wow." If I wanted to use their BBB badge on my website or other marketing material, that would cost substantially more... feh.
Anyway, they sent me an email with a document attached, that is weirdly asking for information like my business Tax ID number, annual revenue figures, etc. Wat? That's annoying but what's even more so is the vaguely threating statement in their email: "A lack of complete information has an effect on your rating. We urge you to consider this and complete the form... Please be advised that it is our policy to reflect in our report if a firm has been responsive to our request for information or not." Now I really dislike these guys.
Anyone here who's dealt with this before? Is this like a shake-down? How did ye handle it? Any suggestions?
