Take such opportunities as they come but do not force it.

I mean your time could be better spent growing yourself rather than building connection with a highly successful person.

To sound very pessimistic but realistic it is difficult to have lasting relationship with such figures because while they can be useful to you, you could not offer the same to them (unless you have some really strategic assets that are important to their business) So whatever relationship build is going to be superficial. You could plan and plan..eventually you had a 20 min coffee session with one of the superstar in business. They will be friendly and say nice things to you. And that’s it. Nothing happens after that and very soon he could forget your name.

Rather I would spend time and effort in building relationship with people on the same ground/level who are trying to climb the same mountain together. It is a much mutually benefiting relationship.
Thank you @kevin8866 .this is actually advice. Find people in motion at your level and keep moving with them. The future holds lots for those that moved the journey together than those that crossed paths.

Figure out who you'd like to be when you're older, then figure out where people like that hang out now.

People like helping people who remind them of who they were when they were younger.

Also, learn to combine business competence with being fun. If you're one of the less experienced guys at a business conference but you have 5 beautiful women following you around there, people 10-100x your net worth will want to talk to you.

Or you could be the guy who knows where the exciting stuff is near a conference. If you were the dude who knew about an awesome ATV trail in the desert in Scotsdale, I'm sure that you could have made a lot of connections at the fastlane summit a few years back.

Edit: oh yeah, and the internet. You can shoot the shit with all kinds of winners over the internet. Honestly it's one of the most effective ways to meet like minded people because you can already verify if you have the same interests just by reading their posts.

And if they end up selling some product, you can buy it and tell them you bought it to support them and wish them luck / give them praise. That's usually an easy conversation starter.
