To give you guys some context: I'm in the IT space(internet marketing space) and have been running my own little business for a little over 1.5 years.
I'm still very young and I have no people in my circle who are extremely successful(other than the people from books, podcasts that I listen to + some guys on this forum who chime in sometimes who seem to give good advice). And a common piece of advice these people tend to give to younger folks is to surround yourself with people who already have the life you want. People who are 20, 30 or 40+ years ahead of you. Because they will push you and inspire you to be better. It's like getting decades of experience from just being around them. They seem to have a very different lens on life than the fellows you see in your everyday life.
From my research, there are three legit guys in my area that I could potentially make a friendship with:
One who's a private equity investor, very very wealthy guy, has a net worth of around $500 million, drives a Ferrari GTC4Lusso as a daily(I drive through that underground parking spot often so I see his car parked there almost every time). He's almost 60 I believe. I did try to contact him 3 times before with no success yet lol.
I walked up to his company's office where I got hushed over by the receptionist who told me he only accepts people on appointments. Guess what, I sent him an email later that day but no response. A couple weeks later, I left him a hand written note in his mailbox(I know where he lives), and still no response. Then a couple months later I sent him an email, but again no response. Maybe he has a personal assistant who reads his emails? Point is, I would love to make a connection with this dude since he's a big inspiration for me. I've read his whole story in our financial newspaper and he's a prime example of a dude starting from zero who's got everything now. I'm sure he gets a lot of emails from dudes just like me, fighting for his attention. However, you can find his phone number on his company's website, so maybe that can be a way for me to standout and get his attention by actually calling him?
The other two dudes also have legit companies and have been in this game for over 30-40 years(one who has a $40m-$45m company in the yarn industry, the other one is in the oil rig equipment manufacturing industry, $100m company). How should I approach them when it comes to making a connection? Obviously I don't wanna take too much of their time, I want to give them something back but at the same time these guys probably don't get asked about advice that often so it might boost their egos.
What do y'all think?
