Hi!

I am a 21 year old guy. I will be honest. I have never been the creative type. All my tactics in life and business come from external education. However, I want to change that. The problem with internet marketing is that almost everyone is following the same cookie-cutter strategy when it comes to selling a system or a product. The whole "splash page with a fake video to get interest", sign up to receive a free report, and then constant emails to remind you of the product, and lead you to other people's product is getting age old. There lies a problem that I notice. How are affiliates supposed to sell or vouch for products when they themselves don't get free samples, and the who product or niche looks like too good to be true?

I myself want to step away from affiliate marketing and be more creative. I want to be an innovator, solve problems, etc. My good thing is that I give excellent customer service around the clock and can work hard, but my negative is that I am hard pressed when it comes to ideas. Some people are more creative in that aspect and come up with great online business ideas but when it comes to me, there seems to be a mental block. I have tried looking for trends.

How does one get ideas or inspirations. I try to look through the internet but I cannot find any inspiration. Any tactics or methods you would suggest? Thank you very much.

I'm currently in the same boat as you. I don't have trouble finding ideas, but I do have trouble finding ideas that I want to fully commit to. I started writing down 10 ideas a day a couple of weeks ago. Most of those ideas are rubbish but some are pretty good. It also gives you more confidence in your creative ability.

The best ideas come to you in the most unexpected places though. Down try to "squeeze" an idea out of your head because it will surely be shit.

Try this:
Chapter 2 - The Innovator's Sourcebook

Hope this helps a little bit. :)

Here is what you need to do.. Find someone with the idea and money, and partner with him/her to make their dreams come true.

Forget about coming up with ideas, business is an ever changing thing. You constantly have to come up with ideas, angles, etc.

If you really want to work hard, great at doing the day to day, you need to hook up with an idea person..

Most idea people are lazy. I am an idea person, and I am very lazy. So I am talking from experience.

As if I'm looking at my own post..... First of all, because of the Aston Martin, second: I'm in the same boat...

What I hate about this situation is that I do keep coming up with some idea's, work on them for a bit an then go "nah, that's not what I'm looking for" and then move on. All this while having the feeling that you want to start your "business" and you want to start it NOW.

Maybe that's the only sollution, pick the idea and just go at it. That's where I'm at right now, I know someone who kind of has the same idea and we are brainstorming about what to do and how to do it. I hope we're on the same page...

I also have a strong background in affiliate marketing. The skills you learn from affiliate marketing are very strong assests you can have in business. You can utilize affiliate marketing to help build your business in many ways.

For example, instead of promoting someone else's products, you can create and promote your own. you can create a product that's similar to the one that you're promoting, but find ways to make it better (extra features, cost less, etc).

You can also apply what you learned from affiliate marketing to help local small businesses. For example, I have done PPC advertising work for small businesses before.

As for right now, I'm planning to utilize everything I know about affiliate marketing and use it to help me build my web startup. If you're looking for ideas/inspiration, I suggest reading articles from Techcrunch or watching videos on mixergy, which is actually how I found my idea.

I gather most of my ideas, by tapping into my subconscious when I sleep, How I do this is I make a list of things I hope for in my business and ideas just pop in, I usually, wake up write them down, and research them later. You should never sell something you are not passionate about, if you , yourself would not use it how could you be honest in your review? Also, find things that compliment what your doing, ie I am an avid student of SEO/SEM work as I know this is an important part of generating traffic.

Search Engines and Social Networks , produce more traffic than any other method that I know of, and I have been working online almost three years, so my affiliate products are things that simplify and make more efficient SEO work and Social Networking work.

When I'm thinking of an idea to fulfill a need in a market or improve an exsisting product, I will go for a walk and start thinking of what I know already that could fulfill a need. Most people have unique knowledge of topics that they could turn into a product or service. I'm not necessarily talking about doing what you love, because in reality you cannot let yourself fall in love with a business. If you do this you will make bad( i.e. Costly!) decisions. My first business was a slowlane construction company, and now I have an idea for a fastlane construction company which is highly scalable. I will be posting about this in a few days, but feel free to pm me any questions you have about ideas.

You want to be an inventor? Invent a headset for call centers that allows a minimum or maximum decibel level. I work in a call center and I would kill for that. License it out to logitech or some other big player in the industry. I'm not an inventor but I am an idea guy.

Really great post. I find myself in the same boat. There are definitely a lot of ideas out there, but picking one that you can really get excited about and stick to is hard. I read this book called "What Business Should I Start" by Abrams. It tries to help you brainstorm ideas based on based successes, etc. I can't say in the end I had an "aha" moment, but you may. Something else that might work is take a day and try to jot down every problem, issue, inconvenience you face and then go back and brainstorm what would make it better.

Looking forward to hearing other people's suggestions.

I have a partner and he has the idea and the experience as well. I do too, but I am a theoretical kind of guy while he is practical. He knows what worked for him in the past and I know what options we have. I am learning from him and working hard so that the website looks professional. However, I know that eventually, I might be run down. Just like MJ had to be innovative after limos.com, I have to do more than sit with one business and milk it till I got nothing more.

My partner had the original idea but ever since he came up with that idea, I have been making strides in ideas of marketing and getting leads. So all that is good. I just want to know that if I fail in this one, I can still come up with ideas and get there. I was lucky since my partner picked me based on my honesty, truthfulness, and genuine interest. All I did was offer him more than what he was asking for when I worked with him and offered to write articles for his business for free. He saw that goodness in me and we teamed up. This is extremely rare as I am the proverbial nice guy who everyone misuses and walks over but that's only part assumption. I lucked out in that department. However, if tomorrow, our business tanks, I don't want to go back to working in a fast food joint, and move back home. I want to honestly one up myself.

Yeah, exactly. I was thinking about ideas and came up with data loss. You know how when your hard drive crashes or when the electricity goes out for some, you lose all your unsaved data. I was thinking that someone could develop a virtual system so that data is stored online all the time even though your hard drive will crash anytime. They have optical cable underneath the ocean which could be used to have laser fast high speed internet all over the world so I think someone could innovate a system so that your id is universal and not based on your home computer alone. If you go to work, friend's house, foreign country, you will still be able to access the same system or work that you have in your home computer. See, now that's a revolutionary idea. However, a 21 year old nobody with no software experience will be run over if I tried something like this. Most likely, some smarter corporations will do something to overtake me and put me at the dust.

lleone, you are on the right path mate. I know since you have computer experience and are thinking about a business. Here's my secret to you. Focus on a service instead of a product. You are the tech guy. You can make more money with service. Think about that and seek your inspiration.

Robre, I am not a techie. I would assume that you can find a guy who does invent and work with sound technology. You have the right idea bro. Just attend some forums and find someone locally who works with headset repair. Get a scientist to calibrate the sound frequencies and come up with the standard. Combine together, make some prototypes, and sell the idea to logitech. Ask for a good deal such so that you get paid percentage of revenues. This way you make constant income. You have the idea, but you have to get someone and take the next step man. Thing big. Most headphone people are music guys and gals. Noise cancellations, as well as decibal tuning could make your headset more personalized. Imagine listening to rock music and having a certain decibal and then tuning into classical. It's not about volume anymore but more. You can do it man. Just start participating in music forums, and headset forums and see where that takes you. I bet you can do it.

GTC1187, kudos to you champ. You got the right idea. It's not about love, but knowledge also. MJ started from limos, but his knowledge about economy, stocks, finance, etc. make him that much more powerful. Interest is also a key. I have ADHD, so I get bored easily. The only reason I had even a remote interest in finance is because of Rich Dad, Poor Dad which sparked the fire within me to get rich and do more than menial jobs. However, I cannot be like Buffet or Soros as they are very anal about what they do. In the end, every business is slowlane as government regulations can change and influence you as you don't have 100% control. Plus, once customers look elsewhere, or the trend or fad changes, where's the control? So you can't label anything as slowlane of fastlane. You just do what you do to get the lifestyle you desire.

ronniebryan, the book "Hare Brain, Tortoise Mind: How Intelligence Increases When You Think Less" is a great book. Ideas can come from nowhere at times. Brilliant!

MediaMonty, exactly. However, affiliate marketing is not as simple in some ways. For instance, you can have a shitty product, but as long as it's decent enough, and you can sell and market it, you will do good. The problem is a lot of niche marketers oversell ideas by implying that they have a magic bullet only for it to be a mediocre product. You have to fight those sharks so be careful. Focus on building a fan page on facebook and a community of people. If you deliver what you promise, you can sell like MJ with his book.

Mike A.B., exactly bro. Pick and idea, brainstorm it, think about it. I don't sleep early at night. I go to bed, but I am awake several hours reading a book, and that's when ideas come. I jot down my ideas then. I don't allocate time to brain storm but go through my day doing my work, and at night I lie down and sometime inspiration comes. I am reading an off-topic book called "Think Outside the Inbox: The B2B Marketing Automation Guide" and its about getting leads through email promotions and influence. I though it was about generating traffic and getting leads. I was partially correct. The book got 25 five star reviews and I bought it for my kindle on a whim. Even though it was unrelated, while reading the book, my mind jogged more and I came up with some excellent ideas like facebook fan page and testimonials in the fan page. Boom, it hit me man!

JackEdwards, I did just that, or rather it happened to me. An idea person who works hard as well teamed up with me. Not only that, his idea is to enjoy more time having a comfort lifestyle and my idea is to work hard, and around the clock. What I will do for him is increase client base, and then outsource customer service while I monitor them. I take away most of the work load eventually while we focus on other companies.

rorschach, true and cool name by the way. I like Adrian better though in the Watchmen. I was working at a fast food joint and planned on keeping going until the right idea came by. All my plans were wiped out as I kept quitting from my jobs. Now I can dedicate my whole time to this, and thankfully this forum is a great inspiration. No jargon or deviation like the Rich Dad forum. Personally, I have stopped thinking about politics as well as its irrelevant.

Thank you everybody. I make a great coach I guess. Anybody want to try being a life coach? I heard it's a good business model and you charge high prices too. It's a slowlane model but I see a lot of people who get into that.

This is EXACTLY how I have been stalling out...
I have no shortage of ideas. I have notebooks and text docs full of them. I even mock up screen shots and get the design process going. I read, I research, etc etc. I want to do it "NOW". Actually, I want to do it yesterday.

But, same thing, every time I get to a certain point, I go on a run or a drive, and I get to thinking...
"Is this what I want to do with the next few years of my life?"

It's usually a no....

And I move on.

Does anyone have any insight on how to get past those feelings that the idea is "just not good enough"??

This is just to help, hopefully you have not dedicated too much time/effort into your idea. I don't know if this is what you are thinking exactly but I think it's at least close.

Have you taken a look at Online Backup
Also, google "online data backup"
You will get a mess of results.

But as always, if you think you can innovate this space, do it up!

Hi!

I am not going with this idea as its out of my prospect. That is why I put it up so anyone who can do it, can use the idea and go from there.

Nice, they got the idea right. I was thinking along the same page, but something bigger. Like a virtual personal computer that you can access from any device. So where ever you go, your computer style, settings, memory, etc. are all available once you log in. Kind of like a school computer where you put your login information and the computer brings back everything relevant to you.
