I was re-reading How To Get Rich by Felix Dennis today, and I'm on the section near the beginning of the book titled "The Search"... essentially what this section is about is finding what it is that you are going to make your money in.

For example, he says that his success selling magazines on the street was what signalled he had a chance to succeed in the magazine industry. He also lists the example of a woman who worked for him who was extremely talented at selling advertising.

His strategy he gives is to identify your inclinations,

See if you have an aptitude,

and fate, which is to say keep your eyes open for opportunities and go all in.

How did you guys find out where your talents were? What is the best method of finding out for myself?

Is simply trial and error really the only good strategy for this?

Thanks!

Yep.

You can't wake up one morning and say "Hey, I'm a talented surgeon!"
It doesn't work that way.
Go out and execute. That's how you get "talented".

But if you still can't find your place, get your hands on "The Big Leap" by Gay Hendricks.

Ask people who know you well.

Don't look too far. It might be right under your nose.

Usually it is something that comes naturally to you, without even thinking about it.

Listen to @Andy Black's interviews in his signature, they deal with finding an answer to your actual question - on how to get started and where.
