Hi all,
New member here from the Rochester, NY area. I just finished the book a few weeks ago after having it on my "to-read" list for a long time... wish I hadn't waited so long!
I currently work full time as a mechanical engineer, have a wife and three kids, and I'm working towards financial independence! I've read most of the old favorites (Rich Dad Poor Dad, Think and Grow Rich... etc.) and I had already started realizing that the normal road of "go to college, get a good job" wasn't what I wanted out of life.
I began dabbling in some real estate investments a couple years ago, and I currently own a few single family homes and a duplex in Rochester generating some decent income. As I read through The Millionaire Fastlane I realized that I hadn't really done the math on how long RE investing would take to deliver me from my 8-5 job (at least using the buy/hold strategy I've been following).
I plan to keep building up my RE portfolio while also investigating new business opportunities with more of an active role. I have a good friend who is self employed as a web developer and is growing his business. I've been honing my coding skills, and plan to work with him hopefully as a transition out of my engineering job. Maybe it'll be a long term thing, or maybe just a stepping stone, but we have some cool ideas and opportunities. I think the skills I'm gaining will be valuable either way.
If you've actually read this far into a random new guy's post.. thanks! I hope to start taking part in the forum regularly and absorbing all your wisdom and experience...
