I have two family members (father and my sister's husband) who are Army officers. Sometimes I wish I would have gone to ROTC out of school and joined the ranks as an officers. I'm 26 now and am a bit late for that, plus I have other goals I'm glad to be pursuing.
I have recently been thinking about joining the reserves. Great benefits, but I'm not sure what the "catch" is. I know there is one weekend of work every month with pay, two weeks a year of training, for four years. Has anyone served in the reserves or have knowledge on the details? It almost sounds too good to be true that I can get out of all debt, have college paid for, plus have money left over, health benefits, and more...even with rigourous training two weeks out of the year.
The money isn't the main motive though. I really do believe in our country and the constitution and have always wanted to be able to say I put my part in for it. I'd also like to have something in common with my father and brother-in-law when they start talking "military talk".
I know recruiters will sugar coat the idea as much as they can. I will be talking with the boss of the recruiters tomorrow about this. I trust him a little more as I know him through my motorcycle networks plus it's not his job to recruit.
I just want to find someone who has actually done it.
