Good afternoon everyone! I would definitely like to start frequenting this forum, so after browsing for a few I decided to make this post.
My name is Tim, I am a 29 year old Navy Vet who is here to seek advice, post thoughts and ask questions. I am at a point in my life where I made the mental decision to change my outlook on life, and start doing something for myself and my family so we can be comfortable.
A little background on me. Graduated HS in 2006, joined the Navy in 2007 as an Engineer. Never went to any schooling, never got received any documentation for what I had accomplished, so I had to work a bunch of odd jobs since I got out of the service in 2011. I ended up using my GI Bill to attend an Automotive tech school, and have received my certificates of completion for all courses I passed.
Fast forward to now. I am currently an Asst. Manager for a corporate tire and auto center, making a whopping $13.63 an hour. I started with this company in 10/15 as an Assistant, and 8 months later got promoted to General Manager with a $52k a year salary, plus a weekly bonus. After running my own store for a couple years, a Regional boss decided to demote me to get his friend a job.
So, I went from making an average of $1,500 a week take home, down to about $450. Having a wife, 2 kids of my own and 2 foster kids, this was completely unacceptable. It's been 2 months since the demotion, and have been given a run around on a weekly basis as to when I will get my own store again.
That right there is what triggered it, triggered the hustle within me and the strive to become something. I don't need to be famous, but I sure as hell want to be rich. I need to be rich, I need it to prove to myself I wasn't put here to work a shit job and call that "living". The fact I can barely afford to feed my family kills me, and that brought me here. Looking to hear ideas, read stories of legit success and use that to fuel my drive.
I thought long and hard about where to begin, and since I absolutely love the automotive industry, I thought of a business that would be low overhead, high profit margin and easily manageable. Mobile detailing...it rang a bell and stuck with me, it is something I am passionate about, and have a few friends lined up who would be ready to jump onboard.
Now, I ordered business cards, and even started a GoFundMe in hopes of raising startup capital to get all supplied I would need. With no donations through the campaign, it was discouraging and showed me I needed to keep my mind open to other ideas incase this one did not pan out.
So, now I've been reading a lot into eCommerce sales...my main question would be if anyone here is in that field, and how you enjoy it so far. Pros and cons, how easy it is to manage, and how quickly it can grow.
I apologize for the drawn out post, but I felt like sharing my story as to where I am now and where I want to go. Although I feel like I'm stuck in a crossroads, I would like to hear insight from those who have started similar companies, or work in similar fields now.
I appreciate any insight, info or feedback, positive or negative. I am just looking how to build myself more to successfully build a business or eCommerce business.
Thank you,
Tim.
