Hi all!
I found this site due to a posting by AroundTheWorld on the Rich Woman forums. What a find! It is so great to find a forum with quality posts, real lively discussions, and good advice! Thank you to PhxMJ (and other moderators?) for keeping the quality up here. I look forward to making this site part of my daily educational routine.
I am married with two boys ages 2 and 5. My biggest challenge in moving towards the fast lane is finding the time to devote to investing when almost all my spare time is tied up with being with/taking care of my kids. Like AroundTheWorld describes, I don't want to neglect my kids to be an investor, but I don't want to give up investing either.
What I do professionally is a bit confusing because I am in the process of changing from one thing (graphic design) to something very different (teaching) but I am trying to go about it in a non-traditional way. So here's the easier way I could think of to explain it:
Growing up: Good student, enjoyed learning, couldn't wait to grow up and be an adult. Hah! Developed a liking for GD in yearbook in high school.
1996: Started as a freshman at ASU as a Graphic Design major
1998: Realized the graphic design program was wasting my time and not a good fit for my design style; changed major to Elementary Education because I feel passionately that a good education is hugely important.
2000: Graduated with my teaching degree; decided to pursue a graphic design career to see where that led me before getting myself mired in the education system; accepted job as a graphic designer for educational publisher Remedia Publications
2005: Mind awakened after reading "Rich Dad, Poor Dad"; started educating myself with audio tapes during my commute
2007: I'd learned a lot at Remedia but there was no room for me to grow further there; quit job at Remedia after 6.5 years there and started doing freelance graphic design from home
2008: Came to the realization that working alone is not the way to go (at least not for me). I need to be around people, be a part of a team and a success-oriented culture. Currently applying for jobs where I can learn and impact the company in a significant way. Ready to wait for the right opportunity.
I want to develop relationships with people who have successful attitudes, successful actions, who know what it takes to be successful and have done it, so I can learn from them. I am near the beginning of this learning curve and to keep on the right track I need to be around others who have done the things I seek to do. Since my ultimate goal is to become a Rich Teacher, my ideal mentor would be a Rich Teacher
