Hello everyone, I've decided to create a progress thread in order to document my journey from the humble beginnings of Fiverr to the Fastlane endgame of five million and more. This thread is simply to document my progress, get feedback on my experiences and the occasional boot in the behind when I'm slacking off.

Who am I?

I'm a 33 year old Belgian office drone living in Paris working on a steady slowlane career in accounting. My job involves looking a screen and pretending to be busy 95% of the time. Since the weight of the pointlessness has been slowly crushing my soul, I've been praying for The Big Idea to come along so that I too would instantly become a multi-millionaire.

That hasn't happened yet for some unknown reason. However, two months ago I read an article on a popular personal development blog which basically came down to: "Stop Thinking and Just Act". I wasn't quite sure if I was ready after only reading every book in existence and wasting my time reading every article on 76 different blogs, but I made an account on Fiverr anyway offering my translation services. And to my astonishment, work immediatly started flooding in. I believe at that exact moment I realised I was wasting my life and the only thing stopping me from realising my dreams and attaining freedom was my own inaction. So the next day I told my boss I quit.

Goals and Aspirations

Like 99% of the people on the Fastlane forum, I have a far away dream of mountains of gold and a giant castle in the sky. Yet I dont' have a Big Idea to monetise and transform into an endless pot of gold, so what can I do?

A great man, whose name I forgot, once said: Ideas are like farts, everyone has them. Little ones, big ones, machine gun ones and giant earth shattering farts that make you afraid to breathe. But if you don't have the skills to catch that fart and turn it in to gold, all you have is smelly wind"

So my first and currently only goal is to acquire those skills and start making farts into gold.

My goal is to make 50.000€ in 2015 as a succesfull freelance translator/copywriter.

I have already quite a bit work of with translations and I'm starting the Gary Halbert 30 day challenge to start to become a great copywriter.

Here we go :)

Yes, my goal in life is to do fiverr gigs.

I'm just confused. How does this fit your goal of making $5 million? And why did you quit your job to start doing Fiverr?

Fiverr is something that people do on the side, or when they're in school, to make a little money online and hopefully parlay it into developing a portfolio. I can see that you want to do these gigs to make a portfolio, maybe move onto Upwork or something, or sell your services online.

None of which is BAD, especially if you're trying to slowly move into self sustenance.

I understand. I started doing Fiverr gigs to build a portfolio so I can start doing real freelance work. Now that I'm doing this so-called 'real' work at a decent hourly rate, I don't need a job and I don't have one... but it took me a lot longer than 2 months to start making real money. I did all this with the express goal of not having to have a job, but all I've done was create myself a job that has better hours than a regular one.

And no, I didn't do this because I didn't know about Fastlane. I was on this forum when I did it all.

I've found that it's not really put me that much closer to my goals except for some key lessons that I probably would have learned otherwise. If I had focused my energy into building something sustainable, maybe I wouldn't have wasted all that time. You might find the exact same thing.

Another thing that happened, which I'm just now starting to correct, is that I fell into a habit of working just hard enough to cover my bills + a little extra to buy shit with. But you're older than I am, probably smarter, hopefully you won't do that.

Don't make my mistake. And I really hope you have a fat amount of savings.

I don't understand why you would quit a job you know how to do with a job you don't and have to learn. Doesn't it defeat the purpose of the fastlane? How do you achieve scalability or magnitude?

@The-J

Thanks for sharing your viewpoint, I appreciate it!

I mentioned Fiverr in my original post since it was there that my mental lightbulb went off realising a JOB isn't the only way to live. I'm currently on Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer etc building a portfolio with the identical goal of not having a 9to5.

I completely understand your point that working 40 hours in an office or 40 hours at home might end up being pretty much the same thing. It's important to continue to advance and go from learning skills & paying bills to setting up fastlane type ventures. I do have several long term profitable ideas and needs I identified, but realising them will, without a doubt, present a big challenge for me.

But I'm convinced working my a$$ of learning something which make money and opens up potiential fastlane opportunities is something I will prefer a billion times more than sitting on my a$$, doing nothing for fourty hours and getting a paycheck.

Quitting my job to start something like this might seem very premature and extremely risky (which I believe is the main point you're trying to convey?) but luckily I live in the socialist paradise of France. When I quit my job, my company is legally obliged to pay me a three month bonus and I get full unemployment benefits (70% of my monthly pay) for the next two years. And even if the French State somehow implodes, I have saved enough to live a year without worries.

So if it takes me 6 months to earn enough to become self-sustaining and another 6 to launch a profitable venture, I will never have to worry about bills.

I have to say that's a pretty sweet deal. I would quit my job too if I had a set up like that. Maybe not to do Fiverr, but definitely to bust my a$$ on a business that was already making me money.
