Not threads, like a catergory called gold Posts

Like where gold advice is in a normal thread.

Johnny boy has had quite a few over the last few days.

They tend to be in threads that aren’t marked as gold.

So you could put it in a special catergory so anyone who’s looking for advice from a certain person and wants to seperate their very valuable posts from the more casual one.

Just an update here, it looks like I will be pushing off the new forum software until early 2024.

One thing is for sure, I won't be using Xenforo. Just to give you an example how pathetic this software is in development and keeping up with the times, they recently announced they finally will release a new version, which I doubt I won't see until 2025.

Looks like they're pretty proud of themselves for introducing a "Dark Mode" -- like an auto manufacturer bragging that their cars have air conditioning and power windows.

They have a lot to be proud of. I'm a huge fan of dark mode and can't wait to see what the forum looks like with it.

Edit: I think I may have made this joke too subtle. The pic above was dark mode via Chrome and I was just poking fun at their company boasting about coming out with dark mode in 2023.

I just came to this thread to mention this. Biophase had a post a few days ago about the tax considerations of buying and selling a website and I thought "it would be great if there was a way to get a list of all these great one off posts in one spot".

Perhaps you could just auto-populate a thread of all of the posts that have 10+ gold bars?

That is already is "kinda" possible, just sort by Best Posts.

Some UI update ideas:

- There's Latest Posts, then Latest Activity, then Recent Top Posts, then Quick Content Filters, then Ongoing Chats, and then finally the different forums. Would love to just delete latest activity, recent top posts, quick content filters and ongoing chats and be able to look at the various forums quicker. If I'm not mistaken (I probably am), this is what I remember from the old site previous to the current design; felt more "forum like" as you go into a specific broad topic you are interested in.

- It would also be cool to be able to hide different forums, eg I'm not interested in the landfill, Misc, etc. let's get that off the page. Add these in as a mega menu under 'Forums' so they can be quickly sought out

- If the issue is new user retention, focus on the homepage hero section (maybe a proper above the fold)

- User sidebars are huge, feel like Speedway, and "Read the Books" items can be eliminated, User Power has no discernible meaning - didn't realize until looking at it more just now that it's just the ratio of likes to comments.

- Restrict user signatures to like 3-4 lines, make posts more sleek, less space between each

- Sidebar has never been relevant to me, would love to see a heatmap of how many people actually use the sidebars, I still build them on blogs and websites myself despite feeling they have very little value and detract from other items on the screen

Just want to be able to focus more on the content, the meat and potatoes. Being able to quickly scroll down a thread is cumbersome. Trying to reduce the information overload, thinking of how important that would be for users who are new to the forum, nevermind decade+ users

To do so, scroll to the bottom of the page and select "Style Chooser" and select "DARK MODE"

It's not the best IMO and there are some random contrast issues, but it should be a decent patch until the forum transitions.

Maybe you don´t know about it, but there is a Google Chrome Plugin called "Dark Reader", which makes every Website "Darkmode". It is a Gamechanger. Here is the link: Dark Reader

Best work around right now is to sort by best posts. Then the first page of 25 posts in a 250 page thread will be the best.
