Forest Creatures

Four creatures in the forest,​

Began to talk one day,
Discussing what each of them does,
As they go their way.

The Tiger says,
“I make my own path,
So stay away or know my wrath!”

And then the Snake says,
“I move when things are hot,
Paralyze my victims,
then get all the things they’ve got.”

The squirrel looks nervously around,
And says, “I save my nuts
and hide them deeply in my tree.
So even in long winter ruts,
there will be some left for me.”

And finally the mushroom says,
“These behaviors, I deplore,
So I just stay here were I am,
And hope my predators ignore.”

Then suddenly the Great Tree spoke saying,
“Little Creatures, down below,
From where I stand and look around,
I see a fire’s glow”.


The Tiger says,

“I’ll attack it, and charge into the fire!”

While Snake says,

“I’ll out run it, now that I’m inspired!”

Then Squirrel says,

“I’ll go deep into my hole, and hope it passes by!”

And Finally the Mushroom says,

“I cannot even fight it, so I’ll wait right here to die.”


Then the Great Tree spoke and said to them,
“I admire and yet pity you all,
For united your traits will prosper,
But divided you might fall.

Tiger you have courage, but that’s not all you need,
And snake you see danger, but should not always flee,
Squirrel you wait and wait, relying only on your plan,
And mushroom you accept your fate, and yet do not understand.

Like Tiger you must face your opposition,
And like Snake know when to retreat.
You must plan your path like squirrel,
seeing truth as mushroom,
but do not accept defeat!
For mushroom, even if fire consumes you,
Life continues with your spores,
And once the rains return again,
There will certainly be more.


Little Creatures down below,
I now feel the warmth of fire,
It’s up to you to face this foe,
Actions determine how your fates transpire.”


Who are you in this financial crisis (fire): The Tiger (entrepreneur), the Snake (opportunist), the Squirrel (investor), or the Mushroom, (Most of the world’s population, willing to accept their fate whatever it may be)?


A mushroom is one who stands still, does not change his perspective or environment. He is resigned to let animals dump on him and tell him where his place is. He is also vulnerable to being consumed by predators. I’m tired of being a mushroom, aren’t you?
