So here I am, taking a big step forward!
I've never been the "entrepreneur" kind of person, unlike many people I see here. I've been struggling to get in the right mindset, and just start doing stuff instead of being afraid. Lately I've been on a learning journey, which has lead me here.
A couple of days ago I got the idea... I was so psyched! 😀
It's a web app. I think I definitely found a need I can fulfill, and I decided to test it.
So in the last couple of days:
- Researched for an existing solution to the problem I found. There's nothing!
- I completed the landing page (just customized a template). It's a pre-launch page saying the app is not ready yet, but they can leave their email and we'll let them know when it's out.
- Installed custom mailing list software on the same server (instead of MailCheat(Chimp)) (I like reinventing the wheel, it's a bad habit really
)
- I made the list double opt-in
- Created the confirmation page and the thank you page. Could have leaved the default "mailing list" pages but they looked awful. I invested a bit too much time in the design, but at least I'm very happy with the results now
- Installed Google Analytics with Conversion Goal at the thank you page
- Researched & found an open source app I can use to base my app on
- Installed App locally & on server
- Created Twitter & Facebook account
- Registered in BetaList, StartupLi.st, LaunchingNext. These are websites that list the latest startups. It looks like a great way to get free promotion
- Sent a message to a friend at the States to give me some feedback and spread the word
The goal was to create the landing page and then advertise with AdWords or Facebook to see if there's any conversion at all.
However, I ran across BetaList and I thought "why not?". And then they asked me for Twitter, and then while at it why not Facebook, email accounts etc. so I got derailed a bit On top of that I'm at negative cashflow, and I need to finish some freelancing jobs in order to get cash for the Ads...
I seriously can't stop doing stuff for the app though... I'm addicted!
Going back to freelancing seems dull now
Anyways, to get back on track, next goals:
1) Finish a few jobs to get $$$ in order to start Ads
2) Familiarize myself with FB Ads and set up the campaign so it's ready to run
3) Create a draft for the app design and for basic UI
Hmm, I like documenting stuff like that It helps me focus!
