This thread seems to have gone a bit quiet...

For a while there it looked like most places were getting on board with insanity, but definitely seems to be a lot of push-back on mandates and mask wearing lately. Anyone noticing any significant positive changes on the ground abroad? What's the latest in Mexico? Any up and coming destinations that are starting to go more towards freedom again (as well as great places to live)?

I returned to the states from Asia last March and have been exploring the deserts out in AZ this winter. Pretty mellow out here as far as the mania goes, but feeling the itch to head back overseas.

Not much change here in Thailand. Their on-again, off-again and forever changing entry requirements are keeping most tourists away. Another high season destroyed.

They have eased up a bit on the crazy no-drinking rules in some places but everyone is still wearing masks. Supposedly, the PM is going to declare covid endemic by the end of the year.

Thankfully England has ditched vaccine passports and masks.

There are reports that self-isolating will be scrapped by March, and that free tests will be phased out.

Most ministers are talking of 'living with C0VID like we live with the flu'.

It looks promising. But I always come back to this: one new scary variant and everything can come back in a flash.

So you don't need a vaccine to enter the UK successfully? I've wanted to go to America but as long as they keep this population segregation with the vaxinated and the "unvaxinated", I'll have to pass America for now.

I heard the taxes are very low in Thailand. Plus the weather seems to always be awesome!

As an American, I always have tax residency there. We can't escape it. But there is a Foreign Earned Income exclusion that can be taken advantage of if you live outside the US. So, I only pay 15% in Social Security and Medicare taxes to Uncle Sam. VAT here is 7% and property taxes are very low.

The weather in Thailand is always awesome if you like humidity! I used to think I do but as I get older, I'm not so sure. I live in the north though, which helps because it actually has seasons. It's now the dry and cool season and it actually gets cold in the mornings.

In another month it will be the hot season and sweltering. It will also be burning season when there are a lot of fires and the air gets very bad. A lot of expats normally head south in March because of that, and digital nomads leave for other countries.

That's right, no vaccine required to enter the UK.

The government has also done another major u-turn. Last year they announced that all frontline health workers in England would need to be vacc1nated to keep their jobs. There were lots of protests and around 80,000 - 100,000 decided not to get the vax. Today it was announced that they are scrapping the plan for mandatory vax.

Nice. I know one guy from my country who lives in Thailand and he loves it there. He doesn't wanna go back! He's very happy with it to say the least.

Every country has its ups and downs you know, doesn't matter where you live. Like we in Norway, we're used to cold windy and wet weather(70-75% of the time). But when it's sunny here, it's one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

That's wonderful to hear. We humans need to fight for our freedom. Segregation of people based on whether they're vaxinated or not is a tyranny in itself. I hope Americans take a major step with it too.

I'm afraid Albania is going to carve from EU's pressure. They are trying to get into the Union, I'd be surprised if they didn't try to please the overlords. Montenegro did the same.
No we never had any restrictions, except from March 2020, obviously there were "rules", but the police, gov, people knew they were just for the sake of the media. No one respected I never wore a mask or had to get a mandatory jab.

I was thinking about Portugal. But seeing the election results (socialist party had a big win), I'm not sure if the favorable tax rulings for expats will still apply. Maybe best to get in before they change it.

Unfortunately here in the Philippines, the so-called son of the dictator named Marcos Jr. may win the next elections and this is worrying given that this guy is MASSIVELY gaslighting the majority of the population here through troll farms and fake news.

Edit: He won and businesses slowly started to pull-out from the country in fear of dictatorship.

According to the opposition, he may do historical revisionism in favor of his family and he may restrict more businesses here if they were against his agenda.

Also, there is an ongoing spike of the virus here because our health department here has recently increased testing capacity, although they themselves were so incompetent enough to release the latest reports here.

The moon is always brighter in another land, the grass is always greener on the other side.

People keep trying to find a "better" country to move to, but the best country in the world is usually the one you're born in (unless it's a very poor 3rd world country).

Has anyone considered Mauritius?
- 15% income tax
- No capital gains tax
- 15% corporation tax
- No dividend tax if the company is based in Mauritius
- Languages are English and French
- A few startup incubators
- Island nation with beaches, mountains, a small city.
- Safest country in Africa and politically stable with a growing economy.

Freelancer visa
- Applies to solo businesses working in services sector
- You need to have $35,000 in your bank account to apply.
- 10 year visa but renewable as long as you are earning at least $20,000 per year (excludes the first 2 years).

Investor business visa
- You need to invest at least $50,000 into starting a new limited company in Mauritius.
- Alternatively you can do it without the 50k but you would need to found an innovative business and be accepted into a Mauritius incubator.
- 10 year visa. Renewable as long as the company has annual revenue over $100,000 (excludes the first 2 years).
I am from Mauritius. I don't recommend you this country, unless you have a connection with the PM and the politicians. I am myself trying my best to move out. There are a lot of hate from the people in this country at the moment. We are on the verge of being exactly like Sri Lanka. And, if you didn't know, Mauritius was on the blacklist for some time.

You are talking about beaches and everything... How about the murders that takes place and never got solved out? These things never make it to internatio.al news, not even on the nationam news. Luckily, facebook is there where people can spread awareness.

I strongly encourage anyone to not settle in this country for the moment being.

I'm sure you have your reasons but it's interesting that you say that. Sovereign Man ranks Mauritius as "Very Safe". I suspect it's a lot like Thailand, where I've lived for the past 7 years without any problems.

There are unsolved murders here as well. Mostly because the police are often lazy and corrupt. They often blame a murder on immigrants from Myanmar, whether it's true or not, just to close a case. But for most people, life here doesn't involve violence and I feel safe. I doubt that it's much different in Mauritius.

Simon Black likes to rank many unsafe places as very safe. Probably when you have a military past your definition of "very safe" is different.

For me, very safe is a place where you almost don't have to worry about any kind of crime at all (including petty crime). There are few countries/regions in the world like that and most are in Europe.

I have only known two places that would qualify: Iceland and Japan. It really feels like you don't need to be careful at all, that nothing can happen to you and it's very pleasant when traveling.

There's a similar feeling in Liechtenstein, Monaco, and Andorra.

Other than that, from other places I've visited I consider Australia (Sunshine Coast and Noosa), Switzerland, Madeira, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Cyprus, and Singapore very safe.

Actually, Mauritius isn't "very safe" at all. My neighbourhood is full of drug dealers and murderers. Many people got killed in my area, some got beaten off by corrupted cops and these cops never got arrested or put on the news. Who spreaded the news? The habitants of the village, they filmed everything and posted on facebook.

Furtheremore, you cannot voice out your critism for the country. You can post videos but if you start talking about how bad the PM is, you are arrested. There had been a lot of arrestations lately, more than 10 done in not even a month. Why were they arrested? They were spreading the message about how bad the country and its rulers are.

Politics on facebook is restricted in Mauritius. Do it and the next day a police vehicle comes and pick you up. Expect some violence while they do that.

I drive tourists around for a living. No one is aware about how bad the situation here is. Why? The bad news never make it to the "news". Everything is controlled: authority, media, everything. There had been police officers who got murdered by calling out how corrupted the police division is and guess what? They never found the murderers and keep spreading the news that it was a suicide.

If you want to really know how bad the situation is here, join in the local groups for Mauritius on fb. If you want a comparison about how bad the situation currently is, consider Sri Lanka. It is how the fate of Mauritius currently ressembles.

There are a lot lot lot lot that goes on in this country but don't make it to the national or international news. From what I said above, that's not even 1% of what happens.

Well, you know more about your country than I do. I just wonder if there are more dangerous places than others? Perhaps you live in one?

The town I grew up in, in the USA is still pretty safe. But, there are areas within an hour's drive that I wouldn't want to go to at night.

Thailand doesn't exactly have free speech either. You take a chance if you say anything bad about the monarchy or the PM, but it sounds like it's worse there. I hope you can move somewhere where you feel more comfortable.

There are safer places but there are no safe place. Nobody escapes from the whim of the culture here. I will give you an example of what happened about two weeks ago: Someone who was going to interview a politician was intercepted. He was followed at the moment he stepped out from his house and note, he was being followed by the cops, currupted cops. He was tracked by using the CCTV cameras on the road. At a point, they stopped him and put false accusations on him so that he doesn't reach his destination on time. About 2 hours later, he was released as they police declared that they found nothing on him. But, what happened two hours later? The event was over and he would not be interviewing anyone.

When I am talking about bad people here, I am mostly refering to the ones with power. They can track you no matter where you are on the island. Now, think about that. They can literally track anyone, but, how can they not track police aggresors and politicians who bashed up people recently?

Here, we say that we are ruled by a dictator.

Even our messages are under surveillance, we don't really have privacy.

You know how almost everything is controlled in North Korea? It is kind of the same.

Just yesterday, in my area, a group of 10 people voiced out their opinion about the misery that's going on. Guess what happenned? Minutes later, about three police vehicles came and arrested them. They were brought to the police station and this never made it to the news too. How did we know? Again, people filmed everything and posted.

Yes, I really want to get out of here asap. I am doing my best. Unless you are someone who is just passing by to Mauritius for its tourist attraction and things, go on. But, I strongly advise you not to settle here for any reason, unless you have a huge amount of money. The situation may change several years later if the rulers change, but for now, just don't.

Have you ever heard of the NSA? They track and spy on everyone in the USA as well. They might not use the information as aggressively as there but believe me, if they want to target someone, they can easily do it.

Can anyone in Europe tell me what it’s like getting around at the moment with no vax?

Most of Europe has zero entry restrictions now. You can fly between most countries without any problems.

Depends if it's an online business or an offline one. If it's online, I'd go to a country with the lowest taxes but that still allows you to set up Stripe and stuff. If it's offline, you can't beat a country with a relatively large (I'd say at least 20 million people) but wealthy population. But these countries are usually hard to immigrate to.

Just did a week in Ireland and apart from seeing my family it was fairly depressing.

When I was younger Ireland seemed amazing and now it just seems like a place with a million different rules and a government that will tax/fine/ban/restrict you at every move.

Here is a photo I took last week that sums it all up...

View attachment 38739

Over the last year a lot of countries showed their true colors and Ireland for sure showed theirs. They had Europes worst lockdown and a zero-IQ approach towards dealing with things. They just locked everything down, took out massive debt, and went into "look how safe I can be" virtue signalling.

When I went back last week they still had a ban on indoor dining. They are the ONLY country in Europe doing this.

For me I can't live there - I just can't trust the government with my life and freedom.
Ireland has some of the best people, food, and scenery possible but as a country it is just driving off a cliff.

On the other hand living in Poland has been amazing. No one bothers me about anything, everyone is super friendly, the place just feels free and happy, and they have great positive values and work ethic.

Even making this post is depressing so I will leave it at that.

In short if you are thinking Europe then go EAST - Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, Georgia, Russia, Serbia etc. All of these countries will do well as the West of Europe hits the wall over the next 5-10 years.
yo man, as a Ukrainian, Ukraine is a big shithole. I can think of no good reason to be there.
1. People. People are the epidemy of the post-soviet sidewalk. The concept of Slowlane does not even exist here - the only hope is retirement money: I quite literally spoke with my father 15 minutes ago, and he told "there is no point in freelance, because it doesn't pay retirement."

2. Bullshit bureaucracy and a VEEERY corrupt system. You don't even realize. I've heard that, in some areas, you need to bribe people for everything (or else it would not be done)
That said, it becomes better with this point. We are getting centralized and now the bribery is less often.

You can be sure Russia is even worse - we have a diaspora here in Slovakia and we communicate quite often.

From the top of the head - Germany, Austria, Ireland - god-tier countries. Taxes, sure, but for as long as you are a producer, do you care about the taxes?
Hungary! I don't know about the inside, but Budapest is such a beautiful city...

Bottom-line: avoid everything post-soviet. Not because of the countries, but because of the people who lived here for centuries. Most have a very hard history, and people... think about them like slums of india, but add post-communist trauma.

You guys in US have it better. Creators and leaders - you are the brightest minds to exist, yet. I have to do my Fastlane, and I'm moving there...

Being a fastlaner is all about using everything at your disposal to your advantage.

Live in where you want for the lifestyle (i.e Poland like Fox) but have your business registered in a low tax, easy business bureaucracy country like Ireland.

I also have friends from Spain & Italy who visited Ireland just to open companies here.
