If I’m going join this forum, I might as well dive in. Yes, I’m 40, never married, no kids and just bought my very 1st IPad and Laptop this year. No, I’m not kidding. I’ve been an employee my whole life and I’m over it. I’m not sure when I figured it out, but I know for certain that a job is never going to create the life Ive always envisioned. I’m so late to the game, some days I feel overwhelmed on even getting started. But the truth is, even though I don’t currently have my own business and nothing tangible to call my own. Just by reading a book like UNSCRIPTED and joining this forum, that’s a start. And I’m OK with that.
Again from MJs book, school trains us from day 1 to be good employees. It’s unbelievable how many similarities the comparisons between school and a job have. Hours of the day, taking lunch, weekends off, and on and on it goes. Most people just fall in line and ‘follow,’ myself included. ‘Work hard’ was the advice of my parents. I love them and they love me, but unfortunately they didn’t have a clue either. It’s no wonder its so hard to break the cycle. I’m jealous of the ones who can risk everything and just quit their job on a dime.
MJ talks about the F*ck THIS EVENT. I’ve had several. Matter of fact, I had one about 3 weeks ago. It had to do with the masks we now have to wear for safety. DO NOT GET ME STARTED. Well I told my boss, I’m not doing it and I’m willing to walk away, and they can fire me. Well my good friend, with good intentions, who’s perfectly happy being an employee, talked me out of it. Wanna know the reason I listened to him? As like many others... I had nothing else to go to. Yes, I have a few months of savings, but I have nothing I’m currently trying to build. No goal. No plan. No direction. And without any of those, and no job, well, it doesn’t take long before things get bad. But am I going to give up? No way. I learned something else from UNSCRIPTED, (lots actually)!
I’d always get frustrated because it always came back to the same ol question... Where and how do I start? Those questions are honest and innocent enough, but I also know no one is going to come and just give me all the answers. (Although, finding a mentor is a must) Which left me more frustrated. The answer I found was 3 simple words... Research, Learn, Solve!!
I know the day is soon to come where I will finally stop being a follower and learn to be the leader of my own life. I will fail. Prolly more than once. Yes, that’s scares me, but Ive also learned, failure is the best teacher. Damned if you do, Damned if you don’t. Gotta love it!!
CHEERS!!
HERE’S TO THE FUTURE!!
