Its called re-targeting in "media buy" talk.

You can re-market to visitors via platforms like adwords and RTB network sitescout.com if you use RON.

Its much cheaper way of promoting and normally converts better.

A Simple Guide to Retargeting with SiteScout

I made this thread on how to get started with media buy.

I noticed this EXACT samething when I was on cars.com looking at g35s and the EXACT cars I would look at would pop up on the ad on facebook. If i went back to cars.com and looked up a different car then returned to facebook THAT EXACT car would come up. Freaky.

If you're worried about tracking, consider this:

-Any site you visit has your IP and knows what you were viewing

-so does any content/service provider on that site (ads, analytics, social, etc.)

-some of those providers have MASSIVE reach (everyone rightfully worries about google/fb, but are often oblivious the giant ad networks)

-those providers can link all the data associated with your IP

-you don't need to be logged into anything for this to work

-to make it worse, if you ever log into a provider (google, etc.) from that IP, now your identity is connected to the above data no matter what security steps you've taken

-there's little you can do to prevent this short of very frequent IP changes or using different IPs specifically for behaviors that you don't want connected to other behaviors, though it only takes one slip up to ruin the effort

:sorry:

So google shares the web sites that I visit with Facebook? Assholes. All of them. I am NOT a fan of that.

Why is this a big deal, dude? They're helping you find relevant ads. If you have nothing to hide there's nothing to be worried about. Who cares if Google finds your porn stash.

And Vig if you're a conspiracy theorist worried about the Illuminati researching you, just become rich and famous enough that Big Brother will HAVE to accept you!!

Personally I'm not worried about privacy loss, most people's lives are't that interesting anyway, I don't see why they make a stink about Google seeing your browsing history.

I also despise the targeted advertising....unless I am paying for it to target potential customers.

But I also frequently use TOR Browser. Its free and it offers the most complete web privacy out there. Dissidents use it in countries with oppressive governments. Most governments can't crack it because its breaks your data apart and spits it over various servers throughout the world. :)

But then again, I have nothing to hide. Except my data from the Russian mafia after it hacks gmail.

If they are going to display ads they area atleast wanting to make them relevant to our interests. Better for the advertiser too.

I dont think they are really interested in our My Documents files.

Private Tunnel

Yes... there is.

It is called Virtual Private Network (VPN) and it secures you with a shield that is more secure and feature packed than any Firewall that is available to the consumer right now.

This (VPN) had been very expensive, still is to some extent, and as such was only affordable by entities larger than the single person. That is about to change, I believe, as persons like yourself become more conscious and demanding of security and privacy on the internet. If you are really serious about control of your privacy you will need something much stronger and more powerful than you have seen before.

.
What's your recommendations for VPN service? What do you think of Witopia? Thanks

Check Mullvad. You can pay with cash or Bitcoin and they only give you a number, you don’t have to associate your email or other personal information.

I use them, pay with Bitcoin and rotate account numbers from time to time.

VPNs are not bulletproof though, as right now Chrome or Safari leak your real ip through WebRTC. Use Firefox instead, with some anti-tracking addons.

I'm currently on Hotspot Shield Elite -- Lifetime Access. Works great for me. Paid $100 for a lifetime membership/access. I think they increased the price for it already. There are other great ones too. However, this can't hide you from the NSA or the FBI if you are on the deep web level business. ;) If you are that paranoid, go purchase VPN outside the USA and from a country the USA does not have any alliance with. You know how powerful they are.

Thanks urianasi. Do you mind to share which anti-tracking addons you use in Firefox? Thanks
I want to install al these securities you shared mainly for my 9 years old son's laptop & ipad. I can see the real damages & effects tracking ads doing to an innocent 9 years old boy. He doesn't know, and the ads keep following him every where.....

Thank you anonymoose for sharing the knowledge. I'll check that out. It's mainly to protect my little son from being following around by ....the bad guys... And me staying FOCUS on what I need to do at the moment. And not to be swaying around the web....

As I always say, it's important to have tools, encrypt your devices and stuff like that, but the most important thing is the behavior of the person accessing the web. If he clicks on every link, download any file or image, well, not even a VPN or AV will "save" you.

First thing I would say is to stick to open-source software. Your best bet for a browser is Firefox, which on Desktop you can install a few extensions to improve your privacy, and control (Note that your browser experience will be a little different, because you should choose what scripts you decide to run when accessing a page. For example, I have the facebook domain --*.facebook.com-- marked as 'Untrusted', so the extension won't accept any request from that domain). So, install Firefox on the ipad and desktop computer and make sure not to use Safari, IE or Chrome.

Another thing will be to don't let your kid use social networks, especially if he's that young. I don't want to tell you how to raise him, of course, but that's what I will do: limit the access to games, or entertainment, but no social networks. They don't need it, and TBH, neither a good portion of the population.

And then, well, just make sure that he understands that the web is not always a fun place. If you are not careful, a few awful things might happen. If he knows what can happen, you can trust that he'll apply common sense when using a device.

And I think that will be it. I mean, be careful and apply common sense, use open-source, if you can use a vpn and it'll be ok.

Hope it helps!
